( Dialogue with Linda-Vo and Tsasi )

Tsasi: Good afternoon, Linda! It’s a pleasure to sit down with you today. How are you?

Linda-Vo: Good afternoon, Tsasi! I’m doing well, thank you. I’m excited to talk about the journey and philosophy behind my restaurants.

Tsasi: Wonderful! Let’s dive right in. One might question whether setting up a business at a location is too much about profit and transactions or if it has the value or purpose for human health and happiness. What do you think, Linda?

Linda-Vo: That’s a great question, Tsasi. The number one answer to that question is that 68% of businesses opening first take into account how much profit they are going to make in that location.

Tsasi: We all know that profits are essential for any business or company’s survival.

Linda-Vo: Absolutely, but profit does not define a business’s purpose. Nor do the products or services it sells, which are the “what” of the organization. For my restaurants, the great focus is instead on a higher purpose.

Tsasi: As discussed in your previous editions, a higher purpose is about the positive impact that your restaurants contribute to the community and the world at large. It can answer strategic questions such as: Who are we? Why should we exist? Why does the world need us? How are we making a difference?

Linda-Vo: Exactly. My restaurants are of a higher purpose. When I started my restaurant, it was with the higher purpose of showing the community and the world that one can run a successful business while minimising environmental harm and become a force for good.

Tsasi:.That’s inspiring, Linda. It is no exaggeration to say that life is a series of hardships. In an age like ours, marked by unending crisis, many businesses only look for profit, and many face challenges that seem beyond their control. In “A Ship to Cross the Sea of Suffering,” Nichiren explains the essence of faith for advancing toward victory with hope and an expansive life state even when tossed about by life’s seemingly endless trials.

Linda-Vo: Thank you, Tsasi. In fact, with such intent, my restaurants have attracted loyal customers. Social enterprises such as mine have a unique story of starting a business not to make a profit but to address social, environmental, and organic farming issues. It’s what makes us stand out and leads to strong relationships.

Tsasi: That’s quite commendable. How do you ensure your philosophy is consistently reflected in your business operations?

Linda-Vo: By focusing on our intent to freeing all people from suffering. I offered four criteria for identifying a philosophy that genuinely benefits humanity. Namely, it must help all people:
( 1) free themselves from suffering,
( 2) Enjoy true happiness.
( 3) Truly purify their lives.
(4) Awaken to the true eternal nature of their lives. This philosophy is central to our mission and guides all our decisions.

Tsasi: Thank you, Linda. As with your restaurants, your specialisation is not just organic food, specialised chefs, and other requirements that attract many clients. Indeed, your intention or philosophy gives clients enjoyment because human beings generally prefer someone who wishes them well and always bears in mind their health, security, and happiness.

Linda-Vo: Exactly, Tsasi. By prioritising these values, we create a dining experience that resonates deeply with our patrons, making them feel valued and cared for. This, in turn, builds a strong, loyal customer base.

Tsasi:.Thank you so much for sharing your insights, Linda. It’s been a pleasure speaking with you.

Linda-Vo: Thank you, Tsasi. It’s been a pleasure talking with you as well.
