The President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says the Government will soon stop the exportation of bauxite and iron ore in their raw state. He said this is part of the Government’s policy to retain the highest end of the mining value chain in the country.

According to the President, the surest way to optimally benefit from our natural resources is to add value to them and ensure that they have adequate linkages to the other sectors of the economy.
He said the establishment of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) and the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC) provide a firm foundation to build in the country integrated aluminium and iron and steel industries.
The President was speaking at a two-day Natural Resources Stakeholder Dialogue organised by the Graphic Communications Group Limited, in partnership with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources on Thursday, 11th May, 2023.
The Dialogue, held under the theme “Harnessing Our Natural Resources Responsibly for Sustainable Collective Good,” brought together stakeholders in the Natural Resources sector, to deliberate on how to efficiently manage the natural resources of the country for national development.
Among others, the Dialogue will discuss matters relating to sustainable mining, forest protection and preservation, land use and administration, illegal logging and mining, as well as environmental protection.
In his Keynote Address, President Akufo-Addo reiterated the importance of natural resources to humanity.
He bemoaned Africa’s approach to natural resources management over the years, which has led to the continent becoming the poorest in the world, despite its richness in natural resources.
He also lamented the poor state of the areas where these minerals are derived, such as Obuasi, Bibiani and Tarkwa.
According to the President, African countries have generally not done well in negotiations with companies in the extractive sector, partly due to corruption, incompetence and political instability, and partly due to short-sighted, which results in countries settling for less. These issues are usually worsened by illicit financial flows from the extractive industry.
The President said the establishment of GIADEC and GIISDEC was borne out of the need to ensure value addition to the country’s mineral resources. He said of the over US$180 billion global aluminium industry, raw bauxite accounts for only 7.6%, with the greater part of the market generated from processed bauxite.
This, he intimated, is not different from other minerals, and therefore requires that we add value to our resources.
Section 28 of the law establishing GIADEC (Act 976), and section 30 the law establishing GIISDEC (Act 988) empower the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources to ban the export of raw bauxite and iron ore after five years of the coming into force of these laws.
The President said the Government intends to invoke these provisions of the law in the not-too-distant future. On gold, he said a 400kg refinery has been established through a Public Private Partnership, while steps are being taken to secure a London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Certification.
The President called for support in the measures being taken by the Government, emphasising that the protection and management of natural resources is a collective responsibility.

AssumptaGH:
This article reinforces my point about how this President has learned the full truth of his country’s past history.

TSASI:
The foundation for this must be the workings of his conscience, his determination to behave at all times and in all situations in a manner that one can proudly affirm that the President has always remained objective.
He has always sought the facts, the truth, without succumbing to personal biases or self-interest. He never accepts a lie.
The way in which colonialism , slave trade, and capitalism was presented in Africa has long been a problem.

AssumptaGH:
Whatever shameful acts took place, it is extremely, important for the Ghanaian people and the entire African continent that the truth be recorded and passed on. That period may be a single frame in the long reel of human history, but our view of history will be distorted unless the truth is recorded. Not only that Falsified or incomplete history causes future misfortune. Creating a true historical record is creating the road to peace and happiness for all humanity.

History must not be warped and distorted. Fabricated history is no more than fiction. Hiding unpleasant things and only recording favourable achievements isn’t history-it’s no more than a forged résumé. History must be recorded objectively and rarely, based on formal evidence and reliable firsthand accounts.
How did a fateful CIA coup executed 55 years ago this February 24 doom much of sub-Saharan Africa?

Fifty-five years ago on this day, the fate of Africa was irrevocably altered when the CIA sponsored a 1966 coup d’état against Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, former Prime Minister of Ghana and Pan-Africanist visionary who was voted as “Africa’s Man of the Millennium.”
At least 1,600 Ghanaians died in the coup and scores more were injured. Nkrumah wrote in his book Dark Days in Ghana that It has been one of the tasks of the CIA and other similar organisations to discover potential quislings and traitors in our midst, and to encourage them, by bribery and the promise of political power, to destroy the constitutional government of Ghana.
In the years leading to the coup, in Washington, the State Department withheld loans to Ghana and worked to lower world cocoa prices through stockpiling in order to deprive Nkrumah of foreign exchange.

The British press reported that 40 CIA officers operated out of the U.S. Embassy “distributing largesse among President Nkrumah’s secret adversaries,” and that their work “was fully rewarded.

J.W.K. Harlley Alleges Air Force Chief’s Complicity in Pro-Nkrumah Coup Plot | December 1968
Footage of Mr. J.W.K. Harlley, the Vice-Chairman of Ghana’s ruling junta, the National Liberation Council (NLC) .
IJohn W.K. Harlley, a main coup plotter, was “an excellent U.S.embassy contact for important police matters,” who profited from diamond smuggling.
According to Nkrumah, Harlley orchestrated the coup to block investigation into his corrupt practices by Attorney General Geoffrey Bing, who was detained after the coup, and whose secretary was forced to destroy records of the investigation.

AssumptaGH:
Even in our personal relations, we don’t trust those who lie. So it is sad to bear the excuses Washington officials give ro African officials not telling the truth about Washington’s military coup d’état to overthrow Nkrumah.
In this, we can clearly perceive Washington’s evil determination to do whatever they can to betray Nkrumah’s Pan-Africanism and his call for Ghana to be a safe haven for Black artists, thinkers, and leaders.
Sharing his political beliefs as a democratic elected president who wants to unify Africa. He was a great man who opened closed eyes to a prosperous future.

TSASI:
“America, European countries, and even Britain tend to place too much emphasis on knowledge. People eventually will awaken to the beautiful nature and spiritually of Africa.

AssumptaGH:
I am convinced that people are yearning for Africa’s brightness and prosperous future. There are cases in history where a prosperous country found itself on the path of decline because of its arrogance. History shows that a country of ‘spirituality’ where fresh, pure-minded people can enjoy rich nature will be blessed with prosperity.

TSASI:
I sincerely praise your excellent thoughts for Africa. If possible, I would like to visit Namibian to exchange a firm handshake with you . I wish you very beautiful days ahead. Thank you.
