Africa: ASSUMPTA WEEKLY MAGAZINE Update: Chioma Avril Rowland;
“SHE TURNED HER DAILY COOKING ROUTINE INTO A WAY TO CONFRONT FEELINGS OF LONELINESS, BEAUTY AND SOLITUDE”
“The Importance Of Creating Her Social Media Network“.

The findings from the recent study by Cigna are concerning but not entirely surprising. In today’s increasingly digital world, despite being more connected than ever through social media and technology, many people still struggle with feelings of loneliness and isolation. The fact that Generation Z is reported as the loneliest group highlights the need for attention to this issue, especially among younger demographics who may be navigating the challenges of adulthood in an era of rapid technological advancement and societal change.
The comparison of loneliness’s health impacts to smoking 15 cigarettes a day underscores the severity of the problem. Loneliness isn’t just an emotional issue; it can have significant consequences for physical health as well. It’s a reminder of the importance of fostering meaningful human connections and building strong social support networks, both online and offline.
This study emphasises the urgent need for society to prioritise initiatives that combat loneliness and promote social connectedness across all age groups. Whether through community-building efforts, mental health resources, or technology that facilitates genuine connections, addressing loneliness should be a public health priority.
My transformation of my daily cooking routine into a means of confronting my emotions like loneliness, finding beauty, and embracing solitude speaks to the profound impact that simple activities can have on our emotional well-being. By immersing myself in the process of cooking, I likely found a sense of purpose and fulfilment, as well as a way to express myself creatively. Moreover, the act of preparing food can be meditative, offering a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of daily life and allowing one to reconnect with oneself on a deeper level. In this way, my experience highlights the therapeutic power of engaging in everyday activities with intention and mindfulness.

Communicating my experience with my social media friends is important for several reasons:
1. Inspiration: By sharing my story, I can inspire others who may be experiencing similar feelings of loneliness or seeking ways to find beauty and solace in their daily lives. My journey could encourage my social media friends to explore new outlets for self-expression and emotional well-being.
2. Connection: Opening up about my personal experiences have fostered a sense of connection and solidarity among my social media community. It creates an opportunity for empathy and understanding, as others relate to my struggles and find comfort in knowing they’re not alone.
3. Support: My transparency about my coping mechanisms may encourage my friends to offer support and encouragement. They shared their own tips and experiences, creating a supportive dialogue where we all learnt from each other and felt validated in our emotions.
4. Normalisation: By discussing topics like loneliness and the importance of self-care openly, I help normalise these experiences. This breaks down stigma and encourages others to prioritise our mental health and well-being.
Overall, sharing my experiences like my cooking journey on social media can foster a sense of community, provide support, and inspire positive change in others’ lives.

ASSUMPTA:
It sounds like you found a creative and therapeutic outlet through your daily cooking routine, using it as a means to address feelings of loneliness, find beauty, and embrace solitude. Cooking can indeed be a deeply fulfilling and comforting activity for many of us.

CHIOMA:
Absolutely, My experience highlights the therapeutic potential of activities like cooking in addressing emotional needs. Cooking allows individuals to engage their senses, express creativity, and focus their energy on a tangible task, all of which can provide a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Furthermore, the act of preparing food can evoke positive memories, connect individuals to their cultural heritage, and nourish both body and soul. My story serves as a reminder that simple everyday activities can have profound effects on our well-being, offering solace and comfort in times of loneliness and solitude.

ASSUMPTA:
Thank you, Chioma for speaking with me. In what capacity do you work with your social media friends or influencers?

CHIOMA:
“Primarily in the capacity of a social media personality, as a chef, model, and influencer, I likely engage with my followers through various platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc. I may share cooking tips, modeling photos, personal anecdotes, and other content that resonates with my audience.
Additionally, being widely known as the wife of Davido, a famous Nigerian singer, I likely substantially follow and use my platform to connect with fans, promote products or brands, and possibly even collaborate with other influencers or companies.”

Assumpta:
Hey Chioma, I saw your recent post about turning your daily cooking routine into a way to confront feelings of loneliness, beauty, and solitude. That’s really inspiring!

Chioma:
Thank you, Assumpta! Yeah, it’s been quite a journey for me. Cooking has become more than just a chore; it’s become a form of therapy for me.

Assumpta:
I can totally relate. Sometimes, when I’m feeling down, I find solace in cooking too. But I never thought about it as a way to confront emotions like loneliness.

Chioma:
It’s amazing how something as simple as cooking can have such a profound impact, right? For me, it’s not just about the end result; it’s about the process and the emotions I pour into each dish.

Assumpta:
Absolutely! And I love how you’ve been sharing your experiences on social media. It really opens up a dialogue about mental health and self-care.

Chioma: Thank you! I believe it’s important to be transparent about our struggles and coping mechanisms. Social media can be a powerful tool for connection and support.

Assumpta: Definitely. Your posts have encouraged me to be more open about my own experiences too. It’s comforting to know that we’re not alone in our struggles.

Chioma: Exactly! That’s why creating a supportive social media network is so important. It allows us to share, learn from each other, and grow together.

ASSUMPTA: I think you know yourself, who you are, what you like, and What you want in Life. Well, you’re doing an amazing job at it, Chioma. Keep shining your light and inspiring others!

Chioma: Thank you, Assumpta. And remember, I’m here for you too. We’re in this together!

CHIOMA: Absolutely, understanding oneself, one’s likes, and desires is crucial for personal growth and fulfilment. My self-awareness likely plays a significant role in how I navigate my career as a chef, model, and social media personality. Knowing myself allows me to make decisions aligned with my values, pursue opportunities that bring my joy and satisfaction, and build a life that resonates with my authentic self. This self-awareness likely shines through in any online presence and interactions with my social media network friends, contributing to the genuine connection I foster with my audience.

ASSUMPTA: My experience of associating academic achievement with my self-worth and feeling inferior compared to a friend who excelled academically mirrors a struggle with my self-esteem and the pressure to fit in.
Similarly, my fear of rejection from my social group led to irrational behaviour, such as attending school despite being ill. These experiences caused emotional turmoil but also created a sense of familiarity with school.
Similarly, like you Chioma, turning your daily cooking routine into a means of confronting feelings of loneliness, finding beauty, and embracing solitude reflects a coping mechanism and a way to find solace in challenging times. Both me and you sought refuge in activities that provided a sense of comfort and familiarity amidst emotional struggles. While I turned to academic achievement and social validation, you found solace in the therapeutic act of cooking. Despite our different approaches, both illustrate the human need for self-care and the pursuit of inner peace amidst external challenges.

CHIOMA :
Thank you for sharing your experiences, Assumpta. It’s clear that navigating the complexities of self-worth and social acceptance can be challenging. Your story highlights the importance of finding healthy coping mechanisms, just like I Chioma Avril Rowland did with my cooking routine. Despite the different paths we may take, it’s comforting to know that we all seek ways to confront our struggles and find beauty in life. Thank you for joining today’s dialogue with me.
