She regard beauty as something available to all human beings.

Kelly Rowland has set a new standard in creating true culture by the people and for the people by making art accessible to all.

The singer, songwriter Kelly Rowland joins Sotheby’s as curator for her latest Contemporary Curated auction at Sotheby’s New York, creating an edit of six artworks that represent her collecting sensibilities and the values of beauty because she regards beauty as something available to all human beings.

That is why I joined Sotheby’s as curator to bring into being our struggle of democracy that preserves the beauty and rights of all people in the United States and around the world.
My first exposure to art was through figurative works that I could identify with, because as a kid, the world around me didn’t look the way I did. Today, I find myself gravitating toward more abstract pieces that meld motion, energy and colour those feelings of being on stage.

The renowned American thinker Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-82) wrote, “It is my desire to do nothing which I cannot do with my whole heart.”
And it is indeed with your whole hearts that you have performed your duties through music day after day and now as curator bringing comfort and hope to so many who are in need of care and protection.

Indeed, I identify the fundamental spirit of respect for the dignity of life as great compassion. And those who have worked for the sake of others with that spirit are champions of health and creators of better society.

Does art and painting provide secure human connection?

My art is linked closely to my fundamental sense of self. I have used music, and paintings of various forms of expression to convey a feeling, state of society, and depict moments in history or a perspective.
I believe Art has always been a creative way to preserve history, presenting various views and scenarios through the ages. Art has also been instrumental in being the master of change in society, bringing forth opinions that stood out and questioned the status quo.

What is the impact of art on society?

I think, Art acts as a collective memory of society. Through expressive outlets such as paintings, sculptures, music, literature and other art forms, artists preserve life as we know it even better than historical fact-based records.
Art expresses how it felt to exist in a particular time. Ancient artists showcased their daily lives in the form of cave paintings and petroglyphs in Bhimbhetka, Venus of Berekhat Ram, and others around the world. These expressive outlets showcased life hundreds of thousands of years ago in its most accurate form.
Art is also communicative; it helps people from various cultures understand and communicate with each other through songs, pictures and stories.
People often relate to other societies and cultures through their artistic representations. An excellent example of this is people connecting images of barn houses and windmills to Holland and of the Taj Mahal to India.

Likewise, your mission with Sotheby’s team up for its latest Contemporary Curated auction, you are making art available to all people.
The path of the triumph of culture and civilization is part of the spiritual struggle to elevate the life condition of all humanity to a state of firm commitment to peace that will bring a halt to all destructive and barbaric acts.

Indeed, you are right. A new chapter of history has opened. The sound of our voices has been heard arisen brightly in the skies of the 21st century, and the banner of humanism waves is spreading across the world.
Nichiren Daishonin writes: “Can there be any doubt that [the Law] will be spread far and wide [and peace] throughout Jambudvipa [the entire world]?” (WND-1, 550).
I believe that singers, protesters and painters has made these words of the Daishonin a reality, creating a great eternal river of worldwide peace that will nourish and enrich the ten thousand years and more of the Latter Day of the Law.

Thank you Kelly. I know you are making precious contributions to stimulating awareness of world citizenship. Having concluded agreements with Sotheby, I am confident that you will continue to work together to provide cultural information and global contacts to as many people as possible for the peace and prosperity of humankind.
