“A Ghanaian Attorney Charged With ‘Large Scale immigration Fraud Scheme in New York”
“STAND UP WITH FAITH BASED ON A VOW “

This excerpt depicts an exchange during a discussion with an Attorney with his Africans who wants to emigrate, Kofi (whose character represents the Attorney, on his first work in office in America. Here, he warmly encourages a Ghanaian migrants struggling to make a living as cleaners without permit.
A Ghanaian man in his early 40s introduced himself stiffly, with the formality of a cleaner cleaning offices without a resident permit.

The other Ghanaian members at the meeting present laughed. A bright smile lit the man’s sunburnt face.
He then explained that he had recently started working as a cleaner, but he has no residence permit to live and work, and this is leaving him heavily in fear, unhealthy and in debt. He wanted to know what he could do to overcome the situation.
ATTORNEY: “What was the reason for you coming to America without a staying permit?” Attorney Kofi asked.
“I think it might have been partly due to the economic hardship in my country, ” the man replied.
“Are there other Ghanaians here in America living without resident permits as you? Attorney Kofi asked
“Yes, but most of them are living in the same situation as mine. The man replied.
“Was there some problem with the American immigration office not issuing you resident permits?” Attorney Kofi asked.
“I’m not really sure: The man replied”
“Was there a problem with the way you came to this country? Attorney Kofi asked.
The man was Silence.
“What about the help from the Ghanaian organisation here in America to help you secure a permanent stay permit? Attorney Kofi asked
“I don’t know”. There are many Ghanaian organisations including the Churches but they ask us to pay 20 to 40 thousand dollars to issue a permanent stay permit. The man replied.
As a cleaner, you are clearly working hard and trying to do the best he could. And so was everyone else. He was unaware of his own complacency in thinking that what he had been going through was his own decision, even though he was working hard and enough.
The Attorney began to speak in a penetrating tone: “First, it is vital that we thoroughly investigate the cause that led to your Ghanaian organisations failure to help you through the right channel to secure a permanent stay permit instead of paying huge amount of money to them, so that you don’t make the same mistake again. You might want to talk with other Ghanaians who have been successful in securing a staying permit and take note of what they have to say.

“It is also important that you take sufficient measures to prevent paying huge amounts of money to secure your staying permits. You won’t be successful if you neglect such things. “You are greatly mistaken if you think that just because you are working without a permit and making money, you can pay any amount to secure your permanent stay permit.
“It is also important that we establish clear and concrete goals for what kind of society we hope to achieve.
No one wants to live in a society where you have to pay for everything else. It is misguided to dream of getting rich quickly, expecting to encounter a rare stroke of luck or some shrewd money-making scheme. That is not faith. It is mere fantasy.
“By a vow,” as an immigration Attorney, “I mean I made a pledge to help immigrants to secure their permanent stay and I have to fulfil it in your situation.

The Attorney was well aware of the hardships many of these Ghanaians striving as migrants were facing. To be successful under such circumstances, they would above all have to battle their own complacency. The enemy they had to face was within.

In the case of the Ghanaian Attorney Kofi Amankwaa and his son, driven by greed and selfish desires, took advantage of vulnerable immigrants, promising them respite while merely seeking to line his own pockets. His deeds not only hindered the pursuit of justice but also shattered the hopes of Ghanaians who sought a chance at a better life.
In the face of such corruption, the very essence of our legal profession becomes tainted, and the trust placed in our Ghanaian legal representatives is callously disregarded. The impact reverberates far beyond individual cases, casting doubt upon the entire system and the principles it was built upon.
It is a betrayal that echoes through the corridors of power and the hearts of those Ghanaians who dream of a fair and just society. It is a stark reminder of the fragility of trust and the profound implications of abusing the power entrusted by Ghanaian society.
For those affected, it is a reminder that the pursuit of justice must be safeguarded against the corrupting influence of those who seek to exploit it for their personal gain. It stands as a testament to resilience. Vigilance and awareness are crucial in safeguarding against the insidious influence of those who seek to exploit the vulnerable. It requires a steadfast commitment to upholding the principles of justice and an unwavering dedication to scrutinising the actions of those in positions of authority.
In my experiences traversing various societies, I have witnessed the passivity of Ghanaians who, in the face of adversity, could not band together to create a shield against corruption.

I recall my training with the SGI-group of grassroots activists in a city on the outskirts of a sprawling urban landscape Toscana in Italy. We organised community workshops, legal information sessions, and mutual support networks to empower immigrants and marginalised individuals.

MY first SGI-Italy activities :
Through education and collective action, we sought to arm the communities with the knowledge to recognize and resist exploitation. By fostering an environment of solidarity and shared understanding, we provided a platform for individuals to speak out against injustices and hold accountable those who sought to abuse their positions of power.
Additionally, the establishment of transparent oversight mechanisms and the strengthening of legal protections can serve as formidable barriers against corruption. By implementing measures that ensure accountability and transparency within legal institutions, as well as advocating for policies that bolster the rights of immigrants and vulnerable communities, the fabric of justice becomes less susceptible to manipulation and abuse.

Furthermore, encouraging open dialogue and amplifying the voices of those affected by corrupt practices can shed light on systemic issues and foster a culture of collective resistance. By standing united in the face of adversity and refusing to be silenced, those affected can build resilience and fortify their defences against exploitation.
Ultimately, it is through solidarity, education, and unwavering determination that individuals can safeguard themselves against the corrupting influence of those who seek to exploit their vulnerabilities. By upholding the principles of justice and working together to hold accountable those who abuse their power, they can forge a path towards a more equitable and just society.
Reflecting on our living conditions and the measures we employ to safeguard ourselves can provide valuable insights into our well-being and resilience.
Firstly, it is important to assess the physical aspects of our living environment, such as the safety of our homes, access to essential resources, and the overall quality of our surroundings. Conducting a thorough evaluation of these factors can help identify potential hazards and areas for improvement, ensuring that we create a secure and conducive space for our daily lives.
Furthermore, evaluating the social and emotional dimensions of our living conditions is equally vital. Understanding the strength of our support networks, the level of community engagement, and the emotional well-being of ourselves and those around us allows for a comprehensive assessment of our protective measures.
By examining these facets, we gain a deeper understanding of our resilience and the adequacy of our protective measures. Such analysis empowers us to make informed decisions about implementing changes and enhancements to fortify our living conditions, fostering a sense of security and well-being.
In my own journeys, I have encountered diverse communities that have engaged in introspective evaluations of their living conditions and protective measures. I vividly recall a settlement nestled among towering cliffs, where the inhabitants organized regular community forums to discuss issues affecting their safety and well-being. Through open dialogue and collaboration, they devised strategies to bolster their protective measures and uplift their living conditions, cultivating a sense of unity and shared responsibility.
Ultimately, by actively analyzing our living conditions and protective measures, we can cultivate an environment that promotes safety, resilience, and vitality for ourselves and those around us. This introspective process paves the way for proactive actions that nurture a nurturing and secure living space, laying the foundation for a harmonious and thriving community.

Analysing Our Living Conditions and Protective Measures:

TSASI:
In my own journeys, I have encountered diverse Ghanaian communities that have never engaged in retrospective evaluations of their living conditions and protective measures. They prefer going to Church and pray for a God to take responsibility for them.

Upholding Public Order: How Can We Assess the Effectiveness of a Country Police Force against Corruption where a Attorney Charged With ‘Large Scale immigration Fraud Scheme’ in the country?

TSASI:
The effectiveness of a country’s police force in combating corruption within the legal system can be assessed through several key indicators. I have observed instances where the integrity and diligence of law enforcement agencies played a pivotal role in confronting such challenges.
One crucial aspect is the thoroughness and impartiality of the investigation into allegations of corruption. A transparent and swift response from the authorities in addressing the unlawful actions of individuals, such as the attorney charged with engaging in fraudulent schemes, is essential. If the investigation is conducted with unwavering commitment, without succumbing to external pressures or biases, it serves as a testament to the police force’s dedication to upholding the rule of law.
Moreover, the ability of the police force to collaborate with other relevant institutions, such as anti-corruption agencies or judicial entities, is a key determinant of their effectiveness in combating systemic corruption. Seamless coordination and information sharing among these entities can lead to a more comprehensive and impactful approach to rooting out corrupt practices within the legal framework. Additionally, the implementation of preventive measures and internal safeguards within the police force itself is imperative. This includes establishing mechanisms for reporting suspected misconduct, ensuring ethical training for law enforcement personnel, and fostering a culture of accountability and integrity within the organisation.

I have encountered instances where a police force, unwavering in its commitment to combat corruption, established specialised task forces dedicated to investigating and addressing fraudulent activities within the legal domain. By prioritising the allocation of resources and expertise to confront such issues, they demonstrated a proactive stance in maintaining public trust and upholding the sanctity of the law.
Ultimately, the effectiveness of a country’s police force in combating corruption within the legal system can be gauged by the tangible measures taken to confront and rectify such transgressions. Through a combination of transparency, collaboration, preventive measures, and resolute enforcement, a police force can strive to uphold public order and preserve the integrity of the legal framework amidst challenges like the one presented with the attorney charged with ‘Large Scale immigration Fraud Scheme’..
Once, during my travels, I encountered a remarkable partnership forged in the pursuit of safeguarding the rights of Ghanaian migrants seeking refuge from their homeland. In the bustling port city, a collaboration between the local law enforcement and international organisations stood as a beacon of hope for those Ghanaians embarking on their journey toward a better life. At the heart of this partnership was a dedicated team of law enforcement officers, led by Ghanaian captain Kojo Acquah, whose unwavering commitment to justice became the cornerstone of his mission. Alongside him stood representatives from international organisations devoted to upholding the rights of the Ghanaian migrants, with Madam Felicia Mensah, a passionate advocate, at the forefront.
Together, they meticulously analysed the vulnerabilities within the immigration process and identified the areas susceptible to corruption. They implemented comprehensive training programs to educate the Ghanaian migrants about their rights and to equip them with the knowledge necessary to navigate the legal complexities without falling prey to exploitation.

Through joint initiatives and increased cooperation, they established stringent oversight mechanisms to monitor the interactions between the Ghanaian migrants and legal representatives. By collaborating with ethical attorneys and implementing rigorous vetting processes, they sought to ensure that Ghanaian migrants no longer faced the prospect of being forced to pay illicit sums to secure their passports or nationality.
Their efforts extended beyond mere intervention and delved into the realm of prevention. By fostering a transparent and accountable system, they aimed to dismantle the structures that allowed corruption to flourish and undermine the fundamental rights of those seeking solace in a new land. As a result of their partnership and unrelenting dedication, Ghanaian migrants found themselves shielded from the threat of exploitation, and the corridors of justice echoed with the resounding steps toward a more equitable and secure future for all who sought refuge within their borders.

Should we open our eyes wide to see?

TSASI:
The acknowledgment of truth is the first step towards rectifying the injustices that plague our societies. The actions of the Ghanaian Attorney echo the pervasiveness of corruption that can permeate various facets of life, from governance to community institutions.
In my travels from Ghana through Africa to Europe, I have encountered Ghanaian communities grappling with similar challenges, where the allure of power and personal gain has led to a disempowerment of the very Ghanaians these institutions are meant to serve. I recall a township where a charismatic leader, entrusted with the welfare of Ghanaians, succumbed to the temptations of exploitation and manipulation.
Under the guise of guidance, this leader engaged in a pattern of targeted actions that undermined the agency and voices of the citizens of Ghana. The disenfranchisement of the people from decision-making processes and the coercive practices within religious and political spheres mirrored the disheartening scenario i’ve described. However, within this desolation, I witnessed the emergence of a subtle resistance, a quiet whisper of hope that sought to reclaim the rights and dignity of the people. Individual Ghanaians and groups must began to chart a path towards active participation and leadership, resolute in their quest to break free from the chains of exploitation.
This grassroots movement, should fuel by a collective determination to confront systemic inequities, aimed to create an environment where citizens could rise as empowered agents of change. By fostering platforms for dialogue, promoting T.V programs every morning to inform Ghanaians of their constitutional rights, inclusive governance, and advocating for transparency, we have to endeavoured to overturn the status quo and place the reins of influence back into the hands of the people.

The tale of this township must serve as a poignant reminder that through defiance and unity, a community can reawaken to its potential and reclaim its rightful place as the architects of its own destiny. It illuminates the transformative power of collective action and the resilience found in the voices of those determined to shatter the chains of disempowerment.
While the road ahead may be fraught with challenges, it is through unwavering resolve and a refusal to yield to complacency that the rays of change can pierce through the darkness of oppression, igniting a new dawn where citizens stand not as passive recipients, but as bold actors in shaping the future they deserve.

Is It misguided to dream of getting rich quick, expecting to encounter a rare stroke of luck or some shrewd money-making scheme. Is this faith?

TSASI:
Dreaming of getting rich quick and solely relying on luck or a money-making scheme can be misguided. While luck and fortunate opportunities can play a role in financial success, it is more realistic to achieve wealth through dedication, hard work, and strategic decision-making.
Depending solely on luck or looking for shortcuts can lead to disappointment and financial losses. It is essential to have a realistic understanding of the time and effort it takes to build wealth. This understanding allows for realistic goal-setting and strategic planning.
Faith, on the other hand, is a belief or trust in something, particularly without evidence or proof. It may not necessarily be related to expecting luck or a quick fortune. While having faith can be important, it is equally crucial to combine it with realistic expectations and actions rooted in reality.

During a discussion with the attorney, a Ghanaian migrant introduced himself as a cleaner without a residence permit. The attorney encouraged him that he as his Attorney will stand up with faith based on a vow he made to help migrants and overcome their situation.
Attorney Kofi advised the Ghanaian community to investigate the failure of Ghanaian organisations to help them secure a staying permit without paying a large sum of money.
He emphasised the importance of setting clear goals and taking measures to prevent unnecessary. Attorney Kofi also mentioned that he made a vow as an immigration attorney to help immigrants in similar situations. The attorney acknowledged the hardships faced by Ghanaian migrants and emphasised the need to battle complacency and internal challenges.
Thank you for your contribution to today’s dialogue. It is important to recognize the power of warmth, compassion, and empathy in transforming the way we interact with and treat others. These qualities have the potential to break down barriers, create understanding, and foster a more inclusive and caring society. Let us strive to be like the sun, spreading kindness and embracing our fellow human beings.
