TLS—The Leading Senta
A Vision Beyond Walls
For Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo, the concept of community extends far beyond the walls of Hair Senta. To her, it means integrating the best of the local environment into schools, fostering a sense of belonging, and empowering young people to see themselves as part of something greater.
With a strong vision for education, she believes in creating true communities within schools—spaces where young people feel supported, valued, and connected. “Cultural exchange is at the heart of this vision,” she says. “It creates waves of connection that unite people’s hearts.”
These waves of connection, she believes, are the foundation for societal progress. “When people feel a sense of belonging, the ship of politics and the cargo of the economy can sail most smoothly. Culture is an infinite driving force for economic growth, development, and social progress. One might call it The Community Where People Feel Good.”
Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: A Leader of Transformation

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo is a business strategist, author of Direction, founder and CEO of Hair Senta, HIBS-Africa and TLS—The Leading Senta. She is a force for change. Her work is deeply rooted in uplifting others and helping them awaken their potential.
Her philosophy aligns with the teachings of Nichiren Daishonin, particularly the belief that all individuals possess the inherent power to transform their lives. As Nichiren wrote in The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life:
“Shakyamuni Buddha, the Lotus Sutra, and we ordinary human beings are in no way different or separate from one another. To chant Myoho-renge-kyo with this realization is to inherit the ultimate Law of life and death.” (WND-1, p. 216)

Owusuaa embodies this spirit through her work, empowering countless young people to dream beyond limitations and create a brighter future. She firmly believes that there is no fundamental difference between those whom society overlooks and those who succeed. The potential for greatness exists within everyone.
The Power of Community and Sustainable Development
As the CEO and founder of Hair Senta, HIBS-Africa, and TLS, Owusuaa has championed a model of development that places people at the heart of progress. Her leadership has not only driven economic growth but also strengthened Ghana’s sense of community and cultural heritage.
During a visit to schools, she was invited to a special gathering of young entrepreneurs and community leaders discussing sustainable business in Ghana. As she listened to their aspirations, she shared her journey—how she built Hair Senta into a thriving business while prioritizing people and sustainability.

A student asked, “How can we, as young people, contribute to sustainable development in Ghana?”
Owusuaa smiled and replied:
“It starts with a mindset. See yourself as part of a greater whole. Every action you take—whether in business, education, or daily life—should uplift others. Invest in skills, embrace innovation, and remember that true success is measured by the positive impact you have on people.”
Inspired by this discussion, she committed to launching a mentorship initiative through TLS—The Leading Senta, connecting young people with experienced mentors to awaken their potential and help them achieve their dreams.
Building a Stronger Future Together
Reflecting on her journey, Owusuaa remains convinced that real change happens when people are empowered to transform their own lives and communities.

“My idea of community isn’t just within the walls of Hair Senta. It’s about taking the best of the local area and integrating it into our schools, truly empowering young people to feel like they belong to something bigger than just secondary school.”
She emphasises the importance of collaboration, urging society to work together beyond religious and social divides.
“Excluding young people doesn’t solve the problem—it only deepens it. We need to provide early support for families, integrate children and family workers into schools, and rebuild youth services. A sustainable, holistic approach ensures that our young people are in a safe environment at all times, surrounded by positivity in both their communities and schools.”
The Community Environment: A Home Beyond School:
For Owusuaa, an ideal educational environment is one where students feel like they are part of an extended family, not just a school.

“We are all connected. True community means communicating, reaching out, and supporting one another. When young people see a positive, nurturing environment, they are more likely to thrive.”
Her work continues to inspire and shape a future where education, culture, and sustainable development merge into a powerful force for change.
As SGI President Daisaku Ikeda once said:

“The world is an intricately interwoven web of infinite relations. When we apply this worldview to all living things, including people, we can see the world as one great life entity. This is the true nature of our own life.”
Through TLS—The Leading Senta, Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo is building that interconnected world—one student, one entrepreneur, and one community at a time.
The Heritage of The Ultimate Law of life
Gosho- Background

This letter, dated the eleventh day of the second month in 1272, was sent by Nichiren Daishonin to Sairen-bō Nichijō, a former Tendai priest who, for unclear reasons, was also living in exile on Sado Island. Details about Sairen-bō are scarce, but it is known that he was originally from Kyoto, and that he had studied at Mount Hiei, the seat of the Tendai school, before his exile. He was also present at the Tsukahara Debate, held in front of Sammai-dō, the Daishonin’s dwelling at Tsukahara, on the sixteenth and seventeenth days of the first month in 1272. In this debate the Daishonin was the clear victor over Pure Land, True Word, and other priests from Sado and various provinces of northern Japan. Many people converted to his teachings at this time, among them Sairen-bō.
Sairen-bō was a highly educated priest to whom the Daishonin sent several important essays, including The True Aspect of All Phenomena and The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life. He had several unresolved questions about Buddhist theory, and he addressed them one by one to the Daishonin, who in turn answered these questions in written form. The Daishonin praised him, saying, “How admirable that you have asked about the transmission of the ultimate Law of life and death!” In his reply the Daishonin offers a look into the wonder of the Buddha’s enlightenment, as well as the practical means whereby ordinary people may attain the same end.
In the first paragraph, the Daishonin states that Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is the heritage of the ultimate Law of life, and that the transmission of this Law is made from the Buddha to all living beings. Then he refers to the question of how we can inherit the ultimate Law of life and manifest it within ourselves.
This Law flows in the depths of the lives of those who believe in the teachings of the Lotus Sutra, practice in exact accord with them, and chant the daimoku. The Daishonin declares that there is no distinction whatsoever between Shakyamuni Buddha, the Lotus Sutra, and us ordinary people.
Viewed from the standpoint of the Daishonin’s Buddhism, this can be taken as a declaration that there is absolutely no difference or separation between Nichiren Daishonin as the Buddha of the Latter Day, the Law of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo—or the Gohonzon which embodies that Law—and ourselves, who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.
In terms of time, the heritage—the mystic relationship between the Law and the lives of the people—courses eternally through the past, present, and future, unbroken in any lifetime. In terms of space, the Daishonin proclaims that the heritage of the ultimate Law flows within the lives of his disciples and lay supporters who work in perfect unity for the realization of a peaceful world and happiness for all humanity.
Having stated that the ultimate Law is within the lives of human beings, Nichiren Daishonin further explains how to inherit the Law. He emphasizes the importance of the attitude, “now is the last moment . . . ,” to manifest innate Buddhahood, a state that transcends both life and death.
In discussing the thousand Buddhas and the ten kings of hell, he reveals the continuity of cause and effect spanning past, present, and future. Whatever state of life predominates while one is alive will continue in the next life. Whether one can succeed to the heritage of the Law depends entirely on one’s faith. This is why he strictly warns in his conclusion, “Even embracing the Lotus Sutra would be useless without the heritage of faith.”
A Powerful Dialogue Between Cookieteegh and Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo
Setting: A private lounge at an upscale hotel in Accra, Ghana. Outside, the city hums with life, yet within these walls, a conversation is unfolding that could change the course of Ghana’s future. Cookieteegh, a bold journalist, sits across from Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo, a woman on a mission to empower Ghana’s youth through TLS—The Living Senta.

Opening: Greetings and Introduction

Cookieteegh: Good evening, Madam Owusuaa. It is a privilege to have this conversation with you. Your journey—from building Hair Senta into a household name to launching TLS—has inspired many. What drives your unwavering commitment to change?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Good evening, Cookieteegh. I appreciate the opportunity to discuss something that weighs heavily on my heart. My motivation comes from one simple truth: every person has limitless potential, yet society places artificial limitations on them. I refuse to accept that.

Cookieteegh: Ghana is at a tipping point. Inequality is deepening, and the youth are losing hope. Some say our leadership has failed us. Do you agree?
Exposing the Root of Inequality and Poverty in Ghana

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Without a doubt, leadership has played a significant role in Ghana’s struggles. But beyond politics, the real crisis is a lack of belief in human potential. Our system was never designed to empower—it was designed to control.

Cookieteegh: That’s a strong statement. Can you elaborate?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Let’s take education as an example. We have universities producing thousands of graduates every year, yet unemployment remains high. Why? Because the system does not equip students with the skills to create opportunities for themselves. They are trained to seek jobs in an economy that isn’t growing. What happens when those jobs don’t exist? They are left stranded.

Cookieteegh: But some argue that young people must “hustle” and create their opportunities.

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Hustle? That’s a convenient excuse for bad leadership. Hard work is essential, but how do you hustle when you are set up to fail from the start? If someone is denied quality education, lacks access to capital, and operates in a corrupt system, how far can their hustle take them?

Cookieteegh: It sounds like you are saying Ghana’s youth are being deliberately kept in a cycle of poverty.

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Exactly. And this is where my Buddhist philosophy aligns with my work. Nichiren Daishonin teaches us in The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life that every individual possesses the power to transform their destiny. He wrote, “Shakyamuni Buddha, the Lotus Sutra, and we ordinary human beings are in no way different or separate from one another.” (WND-1, p. 216)
In other words, there is no fundamental difference between those who succeed and those who struggle—except the conditions they are placed in. If we remove the barriers of poverty, lack of education, and systemic oppression, the youth of Ghana will thrive.
TLS—The Living Senta: A Radical Model for Change:

Cookieteegh: TLS—The Living Senta—is quickly becoming a game changer. How does it differ from traditional education and business development programs?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: TLS is built on three core pillars:
- Skill Acquisition: We train young people in practical, high-demand fields—technology, business, and creative industries. Education must be applicable, not just theoretical.
- Mentorship: No one succeeds alone. We connect young people with industry leaders who guide them.
- Financial Empowerment: Too often, young entrepreneurs fail because they lack access to capital. TLS provides funding and connects them with ethical investors.

Cookieteegh: That’s a powerful structure. But beyond skills and funding, what is the deeper philosophy behind TLS?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: The deeper philosophy is human revolution. In Buddhism, we believe that external change comes only when individuals transform their inner lives. This aligns with what Nichiren Daishonin taught when he wrote, “Even embracing the Lotus Sutra would be useless without the heritage of faith.” (WND-1)
In Ghana, people have been trained to believe that their success depends on external factors—connections, luck, government policies. But true success begins with inner conviction. If young people cultivate the right mindset, no obstacle can hold them back. TLS teaches them to see themselves as powerful agents of change, not victims of a broken system.
A Challenge to Ghana’s Leadership

Cookieteegh: This is inspiring, but the reality is that many of these systemic problems are tied to government policies. Are our leaders failing us?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Leadership in Ghana is self-serving. Instead of investing in people, they invest in short-term projects that look good on paper but have no lasting impact. Look at how much money is spent on political campaigns versus youth development programs. That tells you where their priorities lie.

Cookieteegh: So, if you had the power to change one major policy, what would it be?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Education. I would completely restructure our curriculum to prioritize entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and digital skills. Young people must be taught how to create, not just consume.

Cookieteegh: That’s a direct challenge to the status quo. Are you afraid of backlash?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Nichiren Daishonin faced persecution for speaking the truth, yet he stood firm because he knew that his teachings would illuminate the path for future generations. He once said, “If you light a lantern for another, it will also brighten your way.”
If speaking the truth means facing backlash, so be it. Ghana belongs to its people, not a handful of elites.
A Hopeful Future—Thanks to TLS

Cookieteegh: Despite the challenges, TLS is making an impact. What results have you seen so far?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: We’ve seen young people who once believed they had no future now running successful businesses. We’ve watched students from underprivileged backgrounds gain skills that make them employable globally. That is the power of true empowerment.

Cookieteegh: What’s next for TLS?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Expansion. We want TLS centers in every region of Ghana and across West Africa. We are creating a self-sustaining ecosystem where empowered youth uplift others. That is how we break the cycle of poverty.
Integrating the Gosho “The Heritage of The Ultimate Law of Life”

Cookieteegh: Madam Owusuaa, you speak passionately about transformation, but Ghana’s problems seem deeply rooted—systemic corruption, economic inequality, and a lack of real investment in young people. Many feel powerless. What would you say to them?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Powerlessness is an illusion, Cookieteegh. The truth is that every individual possesses the ability to change their circumstances. Nichiren Daishonin wrote in The Heritage of The Ultimate Law of Life that “the heritage—the mystic relationship between the Law and the lives of the people—courses eternally through the past, present, and future, unbroken in any lifetime.” This means that no matter how dire things seem, we are never truly defeated.

Cookieteegh: That sounds profound, but how does it apply to young Ghanaians struggling to find jobs or build businesses in a broken economy?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Let me give you an example. Sairen-bō Nichijō, to whom Nichiren Daishonin addressed this letter, was once a respected priest but found himself exiled and struggling, much like many young people today who feel abandoned by their country. But instead of succumbing to despair, he sought answers. The Daishonin praised him, saying, “How admirable that you have asked about the transmission of the ultimate Law of life and death!” Why? Because the mere act of seeking wisdom is the first step toward transformation.
Similarly, Ghana’s youth must refuse to accept their situation as permanent. They must ask the right questions: How do I create value? How do I transform my environment? That’s why TLS—The Leading Senta—was created, to awaken young people to their potential and give them the tools to build their future, regardless of the limitations imposed by society.

Cookieteegh: So, you’re saying that transformation starts with a shift in mindset?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Exactly! The Daishonin teaches that there is no fundamental difference between Shakyamuni Buddha, the Lotus Sutra, and us ordinary human beings. (WND-1, p. 216) This means that those we admire for their greatness were once like us. The difference is that they awakened to their inherent potential. This is what I want young Ghanaians to understand—they already possess the power to change their reality.

Cookieteegh: But in a country where the system favors the elite, how can ordinary people rise?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: By believing in their ability to create change, and by uniting with those who share the same vision. The Daishonin wrote that “the heritage of the ultimate Law flows within the lives of his disciples and lay supporters who work in perfect unity for the realization of a peaceful world and happiness for all humanity.” Ghana needs more than isolated success stories—we need a collective movement of empowered youth who refuse to be marginalized.
That’s why TLS isn’t just a training center; it’s a community. It’s a space where young people learn, support each other, and build a new reality together. Because, as Nichiren teaches, the heritage of the Law is only inherited through faith and action.

Cookieteegh: This is inspiring. So, if young people embrace this way of thinking and take action, do you believe Ghana’s future can change?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Without a doubt. Just as Nichiren Daishonin’s teachings survived despite persecution and exile, our youth will rise despite the challenges they face. We are in a defining moment. If they choose courage over fear, action over complaint, and unity over division, then Ghana will witness a revolution led by those who once felt powerless.

Cookieteegh: Powerful words, Madam Owusuaa. Perhaps the true heritage of Ghana’s future lies not in what leaders do, but in what its people awaken to.

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Absolutely. The ultimate law of life is already within us. Now, we must live it.
Final Words—A Call to Action

Cookieteegh: Any final words for young Ghanaians?

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Yes. Your future is in your hands. Do not wait for salvation from politicians. Equip yourself with knowledge, build strong networks, and take action.
Nichiren Daishonin taught that the heritage of the ultimate Law flows within those who work for the happiness of others. If we, as young Africans, unite with the determination to change our destiny, no system can hold us back.

Cookieteegh: Madam Owusuaa, thank you. Ghana needs more leaders like you.

Owusuaa Gyimah-Addo: Thank you, Cookieteegh. Change begins with us.
Conclusion
As the conversation ends, one truth remains clear: Ghana’s youth are awakening. TLS—The Living Senta—is more than a project; it is a revolution. And as Nichiren Daishonin taught, when ordinary people awaken to their power, they can move mountains.
