Gwen-Addo: The Wave of a Powerful Woman / Proving the Beauty of Feminism and Strength

Gwen : As we approach 2025, I want to challenge every woman in Ghana—and across Africa—to achieve victories in their lives unlike any they’ve experienced before. I hope that we each carve out a new layer of undeniable proof of our strength, beauty, and potential. With powerful lives and a deepened faith, we can inspire and encourage everyone we meet. Together, we will make a difference.
This year, during the month of HIBS-Africa, we celebrated something truly remarkable on August 24, 2024. It was a day filled with beauty, innovation, and an incredible lineup of exhibitors—a day that became a “clear mirror,” reflecting the true purpose of our lives.

You may ask, “What is the purpose of life?” For me, it is happiness. But I believe there are two kinds of happiness: relative and absolute. Relative happiness comes and goes, shaped by external factors. Absolute happiness, however—that deep, unshakable joy—comes from within. And that’s what I want to talk about: how we can create this seemingly elusive state through our daily lives.
Nichiren Daishonin writes in his Gosho:

“A mind now clouded by the illusions of the innate darkness of life is like a tarnished mirror, but when polished, it is sure to become like a clear mirror, reflecting the essential nature of phenomena and the true aspect of reality.” “On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime” (“Sokushin Jobutsu Sho”)The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Volume 1, on page 4.
This passage has been my guide. Life is filled with challenges that can tarnish our spirits, but when we work on ourselves—when we face life with courage, effort, and faith—we polish our mirrors, allowing the best versions of ourselves to emerge.
For me, the gym has been one way to polish that mirror. I’ve learned to avoid the easy path and embrace the discipline and struggle that comes with training. It’s not just about physical health—it’s about strengthening my humanity. The gym has taught me to go beyond surface-level fixes, to work on the deeper, often harder aspects of life, and to use my strength to help others who feel they’ve lost hope.

As women, we must guard against the tendency to simply put on a positive face while ignoring what lies beneath. True strength comes from delving deeper and refusing to let struggles define us. By choosing resilience and helping others do the same, we create lives filled with purpose and meaning.
Let this be the year that every woman polishes her mirror. Together, let’s make 2025 a year of transformation, where we rise as pillars of strength, compassion, and inspiration. Let’s show the world the undeniable beauty of feminism and strength.

“What is the purpose of life? It is happiness. And when we find that happiness within, we create a wave that inspires everyone around us.”
My Unassailable Life State as a Powerful Woman
Proving the Beauty of Feminism and Strength

In my story, you will learn about the struggles and challenges that daily life presents. These struggles are not unique to me—they are universal battles that shape us, test us, and ultimately define us.
From the past until now, I have never begrudged my body or my life. Instead of allowing the struggles and attacks to weigh me down, I have chosen to expose them—not in defeat, but in triumph. For me, this exposure happens in the gym, where I confront my insecurities and transform them into strength.

The daily struggles and attacks I’m referring to come in many forms: lack of confidence, headaches, body pain, jealousy, and even envy. Jealousy is wanting what someone else has; envy, on the other hand, is being upset that someone else has it while wishing they didn’t. Failing to transform these emotions positively can give birth to insecurity and fear, turning life into a struggle for survival.
But I refuse to be bowed by these attacks. Instead, I choose to love myself. I work hard in the gym to demonstrate my unassailable life state as a champion—a woman who can help herself and inspire others.

Today, my journey has extended into my role as the CEO of Hair Senta, a company energetically growing with new customers every day. Guided by the Hair Senta Mentality, I strive to empower others by drawing courage from within. This same courage begins in the gym. When you lift those weights, you’re not just building physical strength—you’re engaging in a battle to uncover the courage hidden within you.

This courage is essential for me—not just in the gym but also in conversations with my clients and employees as we work together to transform beauty into confidence. It’s this same courage that fuels our mission at Hair Senta, helping women embrace their individuality and strength.
The title of this article, “The Wave of a Powerful Woman: Proving the Beauty of Feminism and Strength,” reflects the driving force behind my life’s work. This wave represents the great inner transformation that I strive for daily—a transformation that is key to changing not only my own destiny but also the destinies of those around me.
To every woman reading this: let your struggles become your stepping stones. Find your unassailable life state. Start where you are, whether it’s in the gym, in your workplace, or in your heart. Tap into your courage and become the wave of transformation that inspires others.
Interview: Berla Mundi with Gwen Addo
The Wave of a Powerful Woman: Proving the Beauty of Feminism and Strength
Berla Mundi: Good morning, Gwen! It’s such a pleasure to have you here today. You’ve been such an inspiration to women across Ghana and Africa. Welcome to the show!

Gwen Addo: Good morning, Berla! Thank you so much for having me. I’m thrilled to be here and share my story with your audience.

Berla Mundi: Let’s dive right in. You’re known as a beacon of strength and resilience—a powerful wave that’s redefining what it means to be a modern woman. Tell us about the inspiration behind your journey and how it’s shaped your life.

Gwen Addo: Thank you, Berla. My journey has been deeply rooted in facing life’s daily challenges and transforming them into strength. I’ve always believed that struggles are universal—whether it’s self-doubt, physical pain, or emotional battles like jealousy and envy. These emotions can weigh us down if we let them. But for me, the gym has been my sanctuary—a place where I confront those struggles head-on and transform them into resilience.

Berla Mundi: That’s incredible, Gwen. You mentioned jealousy and envy—those are emotions many people experience but don’t openly talk about. How have you learned to navigate them positively?

Gwen Addo: It’s about understanding the difference between the two. Jealousy is wanting what someone else has, while envy is being upset that someone else has something and wishing they didn’t. If we fail to transform these emotions, they can breed insecurity and fear. Instead, I’ve chosen to channel them into self-improvement. By loving myself and working on my goals—whether it’s in the gym or through my work as CEO of Hair Senta—I’ve turned those emotions into a driving force for growth.

Berla Mundi: That’s such a powerful perspective, Gwen. Speaking of Hair Senta, your company is growing rapidly and inspiring women to embrace their individuality and strength. How does the “Hair Senta Mentality” connect to your philosophy?

Gwen Addo: The “Hair Senta Mentality” is about drawing courage from within. It’s about celebrating identity, cultural pride, and the uniqueness of every woman. Just like in the gym, where lifting weights requires inner strength, our work at Hair Senta is about empowering women to transform their beauty into confidence. Every hairstyle and every choice is a reflection of our individuality and strength.

Berla Mundi: You’ve also spoken about the importance of happiness and its role in your journey. Could you share more about what happiness means to you?

Gwen Addo: Absolutely. For me, there are two types of happiness: relative and absolute. Relative happiness is fleeting—it’s influenced by external factors. Absolute happiness, however, is that deep, unshakable joy that comes from within. It’s about polishing our inner mirrors, as Nichiren Daishonin writes in his teachings, so we can reflect our true nature and potential.

Berla Mundi: I love that analogy of polishing the mirror. How do you apply it in your daily life?

Gwen Addo: Every challenge is an opportunity to polish my mirror. Whether it’s lifting weights, tackling a business issue, or supporting someone in need, I approach it with courage and faith. The gym, for example, is where I practice discipline and push beyond my limits. It’s not just about physical fitness—it’s about building inner strength and helping others do the same.

Berla Mundi: Gwen, your journey is so inspiring, and the title of your story—“The Wave of a Powerful Woman: Proving the Beauty of Feminism and Strength”—truly captures your spirit. What message do you want to leave with women watching today?

Gwen Addo: I want every woman to know that her struggles can become her stepping stones. We can rise as pillars of strength and inspiration by embracing resilience and courage. Let 2025 be the year we transform our lives and the lives of those around us. Remember, true happiness starts from within—and when we find it, we create a wave that inspires everyone around us.

Berla Mundi: Gwen, thank you once again for sharing your incredible journey and powerful insights with us. Your story is a testament to the resilience and strength women possess, and I know it will inspire so many.

Gwen Addo: Thank you, Berla. It’s been a pleasure, and I hope my journey encourages women to embrace their strength and create their waves of transformation.
