“FOR THE GREATER GOAL OF PEACE“
it’s not what they say, but what we do
The special edition will be released on Thursday 14th December, 2023, at https://assumptagh.live/assumpta-weekly-magazine-19/.
“Indeed, actions speak louder than words. When it comes to achieving peace, it’s not enough to simply talk about it; we must actively work towards it. Our actions, whether big or small, can contribute to creating a more peaceful world. By fostering understanding, promoting tolerance, and resolving conflicts peacefully, we can strive towards the greater goal of peace”
Self-esteem and confidence play a crucial role in fostering peace within individuals and in society as a whole. When leaders have confidence in their citizens, it empowers them and boosts their self-esteem. When citizens feel valued and trusted by their leaders, they are more likely to actively participate in initiatives aimed at peacebuilding.
Leaders who demonstrate confidence in their citizens create an environment where individuals feel empowered to contribute to society positively. This trust and belief in their abilities encourage citizens to take on leadership roles, engage in constructive dialogue, and work collaboratively towards peaceful solutions.
On the other hand, leaders who lack confidence in their citizens may inadvertently undermine their self-esteem and erode trust. This can lead to a disengaged populace and hinder progress towards peace. Therefore, leaders who demonstrate confidence in their citizens not only promote individual self-esteem but also contribute to a harmonious and peaceful society.

Skilled professionals such as trained carpenters, mechanics, architects, masons, farmers, drivers, teachers, nurses, and doctors are increasingly leaving the country, and sadly, some remain homeless or find shelter in kiosks. For those who managed to stay in the oppressive economy, they face the burden of additional taxes on their purchases, which further limits their ability to rebuild their lives and find stability. It is disheartening to see individuals returning to the very conditions that compelled them to leave in the first place.

BRIANNAAMOR
The cycle of leaving and returning to the oppressive economy creates a challenging situation for these individuals. Despite their resilience and determination to start afresh, the burden of taxes on their daily expenses hampers their progress. It becomes a constant struggle to rebuild their lives and regain the stability they had hoped for.
The exodus of skilled professionals not only results in a brain drain but also impacts the development and growth of the country. The loss of talented individuals in fields such as carpentry, mechanics, architecture, healthcare, and education weakens the infrastructure and services available to the citizens. The absence of these professionals leaves a void that is difficult to fill, hindering progress in various sectors.
Efforts should be made to address the underlying issues that drive these skilled individuals to leave their home country. By creating an environment that values their expertise, provides opportunities for growth, and ensures fair economic conditions, we can encourage them to stay and contribute to the betterment of their nation.
Furthermore, it is essential to provide support and assistance to those who have returned and find themselves in dire circumstances. Access to affordable housing, job opportunities, and social welfare programs can help them rebuild their lives and regain a sense of stability.
Ultimately, it is vital to address the root causes that push skilled professionals to leave and create conditions that foster growth, opportunity, and fairness. Only then can we hope to retain and attract the talent needed to build a prosperous nation and provide a better future for all its citizens.

ASSUMPTA
“It’s truly disheartening to see the impact of skilled professionals leaving and the struggles they face upon their return. The country needs to address the underlying issues and create a supportive environment to retain and attract talent. It’s crucial for the government to prioritise the well-being and opportunities for its citizens to prevent further brain drain and promote growth.”

Why is it difficult for African nations to build an economy that prioritises their interests in humanity?

BRIANNAAMOR
Building an economy that prioritises the interests of humanity can be challenging for African nations due to a variety of factors. Some key reasons include historical and colonial legacies, systemic issues, governance challenges, and external influences:
1. Historical and Colonial Legacies: Many African nations have faced the consequences of colonization, including the exploitation of resources, disruption of traditional economies, and imposition of external economic systems. These legacies have had long-lasting effects on the economic development and self-determination of African countries.
2. Systemic Issues: African nations often struggle with systemic issues such as corruption, inadequate infrastructure, limited access to education and healthcare, and income inequality. These challenges hinder the equitable distribution of resources and the development of a robust and inclusive economy.
3. Governance Challenges: Weak governance, lack of transparency, and ineffective institutions pose significant obstacles to building an economy that prioritizes humanity. Corruption, political instability, and insufficient accountability can undermine efforts to create sustainable and people-centered economic systems.
4. External Influences: African nations often face external pressures and influences, such as unfair global trade practices, unequal power dynamics in international relations, and the exploitation of natural resources by multinational corporations. These factors can hinder the ability of African countries to shape their economies in a way that serves the best interests of their citizens.
Addressing these challenges requires a multifaceted approach. It involves fostering good governance, promoting transparency and accountability, investing in education and healthcare, strengthening infrastructure, promoting fair trade practices, and empowering local communities. It also requires international cooperation and support to create an enabling environment for African nations to develop sustainable and human-centric economies.
While the road to building an economy that prioritizes humanity may be difficult, it is not insurmountable. Many African nations are making significant strides towards inclusive development, and with continued efforts, it is possible to overcome these challenges and create economies that uplift and benefit their people.

“It’s disheartening to see the obstacles African nations face in building economies that prioritize humanity. The historical legacies, systemic issues, and external influences are indeed significant hurdles. However, it’s crucial for African nations to address corruption, invest in education and infrastructure, and promote fair trade practices. Additionally, international cooperation and support are vital for creating a more equitable global economic system. With concerted efforts and a focus on inclusive development, I believe African nations can overcome these challenges and build economies that truly serve the interests of their people.”

Why are African nations unable to establish a socialist economy, similar to that of China and Russia, which prioritises the welfare and well-being of its citizens?

BRIANNAAMOR
There are several factors that contribute to the difficulty of African nations building a socialist economy similar to that of China and Russia. First, it’s important to note that each country has unique historical, political, and socio-economic contexts that shape their economic systems.
In the case of China and Russia, they underwent significant political and ideological shifts that laid the foundation for their socialist economies. China adopted a form of state capitalism with socialist characteristics, while Russia transitioned from a command economy to a mixed economy with elements of socialism.
When it comes to African nations, they face diverse challenges such as historical colonialism, political instability, corruption, inadequate infrastructure, limited access to resources, and high levels of poverty. These factors can hinder the implementation and sustainability of a socialist economic system.
Moreover, the effectiveness of socialist models can vary depending on various factors such as population size, resource availability, governance structures, and external influences. What works for one country may not necessarily work for another.
That being said, some African nations have implemented social welfare programs and policies to address the well-being of their citizens. While a full-scale socialist economy like China or Russia may not be feasible for all African countries, there are ongoing efforts to promote inclusive development, reduce inequality, and improve the welfare of their populations.

I believe there are compelling examples that support the suggestion of Kwame Nkrumah’s socialist system, which prioritised the well-being and support of the citizens.

ASSUMPTA
You’re right, Kwame Nkrumah’s socialist system in Ghana provides a notable example of prioritizing the well-being and support of citizens. However, it’s important to note that Nkrumah’s socialist policies were implemented during a specific period in Ghana’s history and faced challenges and limitations.
During his presidency from 1957 to 1966, Nkrumah pursued socialist policies as part of his vision for Pan-Africanism and economic independence. He aimed to address inequality, promote social welfare, and achieve self-reliance through nationalization of key industries, land reforms, and investment in education and healthcare.
While Nkrumah’s efforts reflected a commitment to citizen welfare, his socialist policies faced obstacles such as economic instability, external pressures, and political opposition. These factors, among others, contributed to the eventual downfall of his regime and the subsequent shift in Ghana’s economic approach.
It’s worth acknowledging that the success and sustainability of socialist systems can vary based on unique circumstances and external influences. While Nkrumah’s socialist system had its merits, it is essential to consider the complexities and challenges associated with implementing and maintaining such an economic model over the long term.
