A Royal Vision in Berlin: Dutch Elegance Redefined
Draped in a mesmerizing ensemble, Queen Máxima radiated sophistication during a landmark moment in July 2021: Konzerthaus Berlin, July 6, 2021 — during a formal reception hosted by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, as part of their state visit to Germany.
She wore a light blue Valentino gown—first seen in 2011 during a visit to Monaco—showcasing timeless elegance and sustainable style.
Adorned with the iconic Belle Époque diamond necklace and a vintage diamond hair clip, her look transcended fashion. It was a tribute to royal heritage, Dutch craftsmanship, and her signature grace.

EDITORIAL FOREWORD
Queen Máxima: A Portrait of Power, Purpose & Possibility
In this groundbreaking issue of Assumpta Weekly, we honor Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands—not just as a royal figure, but as a woman who symbolizes what it means to rise above the odds.

Her tireless advocacy for women’s financial inclusion and social empowerment is more than a role—it’s a mission rooted in empathy, intellect, and imagination.
“A true liberated woman is one who realizes her worth—when she imagines a life where she is not merely surviving, but shaping the future. That is the power we must continue to celebrate—and amplify.”
Queen Máxima reminds us that liberation isn’t simply about rights—it’s about recognizing one’s value, expanding one’s voice, and reimagining what’s possible.
In her, we see the reflection of millions of women worldwide:
those balancing households, raising children, leading communities, and pushing boundaries—quietly yet powerfully.
As we explore strategies for women to develop their abilities to the fullest in this edition, let Queen Máxima be our muse: a woman of vision, courage, and enduring influence.
The Imaginative Power of Women: A Silent Force in a Noisy World
This groundbreaking edition of Assumpta Weekly Magazine reveals a timeless truth: women possess an inherent and dynamic imaginative power—one that is at least as inventive, insightful, and impactful as that of men.
Historically, it has been women who nurtured and shaped the minds of each generation—guiding children who would go on to become leaders, thinkers, and change-makers in society. Though often behind the scenes, the imaginative labor of women has always laid the foundation for human development.

What Does Women’s Imaginative Power Look Like Today?
Today, women’s imagination is not limited to the domestic sphere. It expands into education, technology, entrepreneurship, social justice, and politics. Their capacity to envision new possibilities, solve complex problems, and lead with empathy is reshaping the world. Yet, despite this power, women globally continue to face subtle and overt forms of discrimination. They are often:
- Denied full freedom and rights,
- Subjected to systemic bullying and societal minimization,
- Wallpapered with false narratives—that their contributions do not improve society, that their existence does not enhance collective wellbeing.
A Deeper Truth: Women’s Role in Raising the Future
If I were to write honestly about women today, I would place great emphasis on their role in raising children—not merely as caregivers, but as first educators, emotional architects, and moral guides.
Running a household while raising a child is a monumental task. And yet, through the power of imagination and self-knowledge, women continue to encourage their children to think freely, speak with purpose, and write with courage.
I have witnessed this strength firsthand:
The strength of women who know their worth.
The self-awareness of women who choose to inspire.
The liberation of women who refuse to shrink, even in systems that try to contain them.
The Harsh Reality: Few Adjustments Are Made
Despite their contributions, few structural adjustments are made to accommodate women’s needs—whether in workplaces, politics, or public spaces. Too often, women are given jobs that diminish their sense of value. In many communities, women are assigned physically exhausting or low-status roles (such as kayayoo jobs or informal labor), seen as “less important” than their male counterparts.

This is not just an issue of labor or economy—it’s an issue of dignity, opportunity, and justice.
The Way Forward: Awareness and Agency
As long as women are:
- Unaware of these structural injustices, or
- Resigned to them,
the oppressive norms of a male-dominated world will remain unchallenged.
But when women reclaim their imagination, their agency, and their voice, the world begins to change.
And it is changing.
A true liberation begins when a woman realizes her worth—when she imagines a life where she is not merely surviving, but shaping the future.
That is the power we must continue to celebrate—and amplify.

Queen Máxima: A Liberator of Women Through Financial Inclusion
Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands is more than a royal figure—she is a modern-day liberator, championing the belief that true empowerment for women begins with financial independence.

Queen Máxima understands that when a woman’s work is seen solely as a way to “make ends meet,” it often leads to inner resentment, exhaustion, and a sense of invisibility. She believes that financial liberation is not just economic—it is emotional, spiritual, and societal. It is the key to helping women feel fulfilled, expand their horizons, and make meaningful contributions to a more peaceful and just world.
Her Core Belief:
Queen Máxima has identified financial inclusion as a foundational truth—a central reform essential to women’s liberation and lasting happiness.

“Financial inclusion is not merely about access to money—it’s about unlocking the inherent vibrancy and creative potential within every woman’s life.”
She has repeatedly stressed that when women are empowered financially, they gain the tools to lead, innovate, and transform not just their own lives, but entire communities.
Empowerment Beyond Economics
In this special edition, Assumpta Weekly emphasizes how Queen Máxima urges women to take control of their own narratives, rather than relying on a male-dominated system that has too often expected them to live in silence—or sing lullabies of submission.
Her vision calls on women to:
- Reject societal limitations
- Invest in themselves
- Build lasting financial and emotional autonomy
The Call to Action:
As Queen Máxima exemplifies, liberation is not given—it is built. And it begins with a shift in mindset: from survival to self-determination. From hidden labor to recognized leadership. From silence to voice.
Let this be a reminder to all women: You are not here merely to endure—you are here to lead, shape, and liberate.
Certainly! Here’s a scripted opening dialogue between Serwaa Amihere, a prominent Ghanaian broadcast journalist, and Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, set within the theme: “A Liberator of Women Through Financial Inclusion.” This version includes international context and appropriate introductions for readers unfamiliar with either figure.
Assumpta Weekly Magazine Special Dialogue Edition
“A Liberator of Women Through Financial Inclusion”
SERWAA AMIHERE:

Good day, and a warm welcome to our global audience tuning into this Assumpta Weekly Magazine Special Dialogue.
My name is Serwaa Amihere, an award-winning Ghanaian broadcaster, news anchor, and passionate advocate for women’s leadership and youth empowerment across Africa and beyond.
Today, I have the immense honor and privilege of hosting a truly exceptional guest—a woman of elegance, intellect, and vision—Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands.
Queen Máxima is not only the Queen Consort of the Netherlands, but also a United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development. She has dedicated her public service to empowering women through economic opportunity, social equity, and the life-changing power of financial inclusion.
Your Majesty, on behalf of Assumpta Weekly and our audience around the world, welcome—and thank you for joining us.

HER MAJESTY QUEEN MÁXIMA:
Thank you, Serwaa. It’s a pleasure to be here and to contribute to such an important conversation. I truly appreciate the work Assumpta Weekly is doing to spotlight the stories and voices of women rising above the odds.

SERWAA AMIHERE:
Thank you, Your Majesty. Today’s dialogue is centered on a theme that resonates deeply with our readers and women across the globe: “A Liberator of Women Through Financial Inclusion.”
Your Majesty, most women, of course, work because they must. But as we observe, work is more than survival—It is a natural human activity. When women engage in meaningful work, their minds are focused, their will is sharpened, and their spirits are energized. In many ways, it becomes a powerful shield against both mental and physical aging.
I believe that you, as a liberator, have witnessed how financial inclusion can dissolve the inner resentment and unhappiness that women feel when their efforts are undervalued or invisible.
So I ask:
Your Majesty, readers across the world want to understand—why is financial inclusion for women such a deeply personal and vital mission for you? What transformation have you seen it create in women’s lives?

HER MAJESTY QUEEN MÁXIMA:
Thank you, Serwaa, for that thoughtful introduction—and for raising a point that is too often overlooked.
Financial inclusion is not simply about access to money—it is about access to dignity, to choices, and to freedom.
When women are excluded from formal financial systems, they are left vulnerable—economically, socially, and emotionally. They may work long hours—raising children, trading at markets, caring for others—yet they remain invisible in the economic landscape. This invisibility leads to a deep, unspoken resentment, a quiet unhappiness that many women carry for years.
I have met women from remote villages in Asia, from inner cities in Latin America, and from vibrant communities across Africa—including here in Ghana—who told me the same thing:
“I work hard. I save. But I have no control. I have no name on the account. I have no power.”That must change.
When a woman opens her first bank account—when she is able to save securely, access credit fairly, or receive digital payments—something shifts inside her. She begins to plan, to dream, to imagine a life beyond just making ends meet. She feels a sense of ownership over her future. That is empowerment.
Financial inclusion gives women the tools to invest in their children, to build small businesses, to withstand emergencies, and most importantly—to walk through the world with a sense of worth.
For me, this is not just economic reform—it is a human revolution.
It is a path to peace, to justice, and to a world where a woman’s labor is never again seen as expendable or inferior.
This is why I dedicate my efforts not only as Queen, but also as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate—to ensure that women everywhere have access to safe, affordable, and inclusive financial systems

SERWAA AMIHERE:
Your Majesty, that was profound. What you describe is not just economic empowerment—it is soul empowerment.
You speak of liberation not as a lofty idea, but as something practical, measurable, and deeply human.
Let’s now take a moment to explore how this vision can translate into action for everyday women—especially those juggling unpaid domestic work, motherhood, and informal jobs…
Perfect. Let’s continue the dialogue with my next question, now turning toward the everyday woman’s reality—balancing motherhood, unpaid domestic labor, and financial ambition—followed by your thoughtful response.

SERWAA AMIHERE:
Your Majesty, you’ve so eloquently laid out the emotional and economic dimensions of liberation. But let’s talk about the women at the heart of our homes—those who carry the double burden of motherhood and managing households, often without recognition or rest.
In many communities, women wake before sunrise to care for children, prepare meals, manage household finances, and still engage in work—whether selling in markets, teaching, or doing caregiving jobs. Yet, much of their labor is unpaid or undervalued.
And despite all this, they continue to uplift their children, often being their first educators, motivators, and moral guides. So I ask:
How can financial inclusion empower these women—the ones who carry the weight of families and futures—but often feel invisible in the economic system?

HER MAJESTY QUEEN MÁXIMA:
That is a very important question, Serwaa—thank you.
Indeed, the reality for many women is exactly as you described. They are the backbone of their families, yet their work is not always counted in national statistics or rewarded financially. But let me be very clear:
There is no economy without the unpaid labor of women.
There is no leadership without the foundation they build at home. And there is no future without the children they raise—often with incredible sacrifice.
Financial inclusion becomes even more powerful in these contexts. When we provide women with access to financial tools—savings accounts, microcredit, mobile money, insurance—they are not only able to manage their daily needs better, but they also begin to plan ahead.
A woman who can save even a small amount each week begins to dream differently. She might invest in a better school uniform, start a small side business, or buy stock for her shop. These are modest steps—but they compound over time into real change.
Moreover, financial services tailored to their lives—like group savings models, mobile wallets, and microloans—acknowledge their realities. We must design systems with women, not just for them.
When women feel seen, supported, and included in the financial world, they gain the confidence to lead—not just at home, but in communities and even public life. And that, Serwaa, is how generational transformation begins.

SERWAA AMIHERE:
Beautifully said, Your Majesty.
And what strikes me most is how you speak about planning—not just for today, but for tomorrow. So many women live in survival mode. But through financial inclusion, they begin to live in vision mode. Up next, I’d love to ask:
How can governments, banks, and global institutions work together to remove the barriers that keep women—especially those in rural and marginalized communities—from accessing financial services? Shall we go there next?

SERWAA AMIHERE:
Your Majesty, as we explore financial inclusion as a tool for liberation, we must also recognize the barriers that still stand in women’s way.
Many women in rural areas don’t have legal identification, access to banks, or even digital literacy. Others are discouraged by cultural restrictions or burdened by long-standing stereotypes.
How can governments, financial institutions, and international organizations work together to remove these obstacles—and ensure that no woman is left behind?

HER MAJESTY QUEEN MÁXIMA:
Thank you, Serwaa. You’ve highlighted exactly the challenge we face today: structural exclusion.
If we are truly serious about lifting women, we must dismantle the systems that hold them back. That means working across sectors—public, private, and civil society—to deliver practical solutions. Let me share a few:
- Legal identity is a gateway.
In some countries, over 40% of women lack any formal ID. Without it, they can’t open a bank account or own land. We must prioritize digital ID programs that are secure, accessible, and respectful of privacy. - Design financial products for her life.
A rural woman may not need a traditional bank account—but she can use a mobile wallet or savings group. Financial tools must be designed around how women live, not how banks traditionally operate. - Invest in digital and financial literacy.
Inclusion without education is not empowerment. We must teach women how to use these tools safely, confidently, and strategically. - Public policies must be gender-intentional.
Governments can lead by mandating gender data, funding women-led initiatives, and ensuring that economic recovery plans include women as central stakeholders—not afterthoughts. - Build trust with communities.
Change happens when it is local, led by women themselves. We must listen to their stories, needs, and ideas—because they are the real experts. - When we address these barriers, we don’t just improve women’s lives—we transform economies, strengthen democracies, and foster peace.
📖 STORY SPOTLIGHT: Ama from Tamale – A Journey from Margin to Momentum
Let me share with you the story of Ama, a market woman in Tamale, Ghana.
For years, Ama sold yams and onions under the hot sun. Every pesewa she earned went toward feeding her three children. But she had no savings, no access to credit, and no sense of financial security.
One day, through a women’s cooperative supported by a mobile finance initiative backed by Queen Máxima’s global advocacy, Ama was introduced to a savings group. She began depositing just ₵5 a week into a mobile wallet account—her first ever.
With a small loan, she expanded her stall, bought stock in bulk, and eventually hired a helper. Within a year, Ama was earning three times her previous income—and sending her daughter to school with pride.
“I never thought I’d have control over my own money,” she said.
“Now I don’t just survive. I plan. I grow. I lead.”

SERWAA AMIHERE:
Ama’s story is deeply moving, Your Majesty—and it’s just one of many. It shows us that liberation is not a luxury. It’s a necessity—and it’s possible. Coming up next, I’d love to ask: What is your personal message to young women today—especially those who feel overwhelmed, unheard, or uncertain about their place in the world? Shall we go there?

HER MAJESTY QUEEN MÁXIMA:
Thank you, Serwaa. Yes, let me speak directly to the young women—those who are listening, reading, or quietly questioning their worth. To the young woman sitting at a market stall, in a classroom, behind a sewing machine, at a boardroom table—or simply at home wondering “Is this all I was made for?”—I say this:
You are not here merely to survive. You are here to shape the future.
Your imagination is not a luxury—it is your tool. Your resilience is not invisible—it is a force. Your dreams are not too much—they are just enough. Even when the world seems to doubt your capacity, even when systems are slow to shift, remember this: You carry within you the power to change not just your story—but society’s story.
And yes, the journey will be hard. But when you begin to build your own security, when you learn how to manage your resources, when you stop asking for permission to lead and begin leading where you stand—you are already rising.
No woman is too small to start.
No circumstance is too difficult to shift.
No dream is too bold to pursue.
I believe in your strength. I see you. I stand with you. And I will continue working—globally—to make sure you’re not just included, but empowered.

📰 CLOSING: Women at Work – Rising Above the Odds
As we close today’s dialogue, let us return to the title of this special edition:
“Women at Work: Rising Above the Odds.”
Because that’s exactly what women like Ama are doing. It’s what millions of women do every single day—quietly, persistently, powerfully.
And it’s what Her Majesty Queen Máxima champions across the world:
Not charity. Not pity. But real liberation—through financial inclusion, education, and recognition.
Let this not be just a magazine feature. Let it be a movement.
Let us celebrate every woman who chooses not just to work, but to rise above the odds—imagine beyond survival—and shape the future.
