Self and Environment
In a world rife with conflict and disconnection, we often find ourselves trapped in cycles of blame—whether in global crises like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or personal struggles within our communities. We ask: why do these situations persist? What drives individuals and nations to retaliate instead of reconcile?

Drawing from Buddhist teachings, we are reminded that our environment is not separate from us but a reflection of our inner state. As Nichiren Daishonin wrote: “If the minds of living beings are impure, their land is also impure, but if their minds are pure, so is their land.” This principle, known as esho funi—the oneness of self and environment—teaches that the transformation of our external world begins within ourselves.

Kelly Weekers embodies this philosophy in her pursuit of creating a happier, more connected world. Through her title, “The World I Made My Own”, she invites us to reflect on the fundamental question: What is my life state?

Kelly asserts that our state of mind not only shapes our immediate surroundings but also has the power to ripple across the globe. Leaders disillusioned by unattainable ideals, communities fractured by environmental neglect, and individuals burdened by unhappiness—these are all symptoms of a shared inner crisis. But as Kelly believes, just as negativity can spread, so can hope.

The transformation begins by taking responsibility for our life state and recognizing our connection to the world around us. As Kelly teaches, when we change ourselves, we change the environment—because the two are inseparable.
Her story is a call to action: to reclaim responsibility, nurture our inner happiness, and create a world we can all call our own. This special edition of Exhibit is more than a magazine—it’s a guide to making that change, starting from within.
How Is My Environment?
Perhaps we can all ask ourselves this simple yet profound question: How is my environment?
Suppose the place where we find ourselves is a perfect reflection of our life condition, and our life condition is the one thing we can truly take responsibility for. In that case, transforming ourselves is the key to transforming an unsatisfactory environment.

As Kelly Weekers explores in “The World I Made My Own”, our inner state directly influences our external circumstances. By examining principles such as dependent origination and the interconnectedness of all life, we see that the energy of our thoughts, intentions, and actions can ripple outwards, touching society and the planet itself.
This principle also applies when our determinations seem to falter. For example, if we aspire to a certain role in society yet carry lingering doubts about our worthiness, these uncertainties can weaken the strength of our intentions. In turn, the environment reflects this doubt. However, when we align our thoughts with unwavering confidence, the world around us begins to open doors. The oneness of self and environment reminds us that the first step toward change is to embrace our potential fully.
This idea can even extend to seemingly intractable conflicts, such as the ongoing crisis between Israel and Palestine. Positive inner transformation—acknowledging the dignity and worth of each life—can lead to meaningful dialogue and, eventually, external peace. While the path is not easy, Kelly’s message reminds us that the seeds of change begin within.

By changing how we see ourselves and the world, we can shift our surroundings, cultivate harmony, and find fulfilment in our purpose. As Kelly demonstrates, personal transformation isn’t just about individual happiness—it’s about contributing to a global movement for positive change.
Dialogue Between Kelly Weekers and Cookieteegh–TV Host

CookieTeegh: “Good morning, viewers, and welcome to a very special edition of Assumpta Weekly Magazine Presents: Exhibit. Today, we dive into the extraordinary with our guest, an inspiring author, psychologist, and change-maker—Kelly Weekers. Kelly, it’s a pleasure to have you here!”

Kelly Weekers: “Thank you so much, Cookie. I’m thrilled to be here and to share this space with you and your audience.”

CookieTeegh:”Before we jump into your phenomenal journey and the principles behind The World I Made My Own, I’d like to begin with a poetic story that sets the tone for our discussion. It’s called Convenient Fool. Are you ready?”

Kelly Weekers: I love a good story—please, go ahead.”

CookieTeegh: “Once upon a time, in a land filled with whispers of opportunity and echoes of despair, there ruled a king known as the “Convenient Fool”.

He wore a crown not of wisdom but of manipulation, placed by cunning hands that sought to wield power through his naivety. His court was not of noble advisors but of merchants of chaos, urging him to send arms to the fields—not of crops, but of war.
Each decree he signed added another scar to the earth, another tear to the fabric of humanity.
‘It is for your people,’ they would say, Yet his people starved as the lands turned to ash.
‘It is for your honour,’ they would say, Yet his honour crumbled under the weight of innocent lives lost.
In the end, the king stood alone, A puppet who realized too late that the strings were never his to pull. The winds carried the cries of a broken land, And the king, once Convenient Fool, whispered into the void:‘Had I but changed myself, Perhaps my kingdom could have changed too.’”
[The room falls silent for a moment, the weight of the story settling.]

CookieTeegh: “Kelly, this story resonates deeply with the message you convey in your work. The idea that transformation begins within is a theme that runs through your books, especially “The World I Made My Own.” What’s your take on the story of Convenient Fool?”

Kelly Weekers:“Wow, Cookie. That story encapsulates so much of what I believe. It’s a poignant reminder that when we look outward to blame circumstances, we miss the opportunity to reflect inward. The king, like many of us, was trapped by external influences, but the true tragedy was his failure to realize his power to change his environment through inner transformation.
This is the essence of my work: teaching people that the state of our environment—whether personal or global—is a reflection of our inner life condition. If we want to see a better world, we must first become better versions of ourselves.”

CookieTeegh;.“That’s powerful, Kelly. In your book, you talk about how happiness isn’t something we find—it’s something we create. How does this idea connect to the concept of personal responsibility, especially in today’s turbulent world?”

Kelly Weekers: “That’s a great question. Happiness, in my view, is an active choice, not a passive pursuit. It’s about taking ownership of our thoughts, emotions, and actions. When we accept that our environment mirrors our inner state, we begin to see that we hold the keys to changing not just our own lives, but the world around us.
For example, in conflicts like the ones we see globally, it’s easy to fall into cycles of blame. But true resolution starts when individuals on both sides acknowledge their shared humanity and take responsibility for fostering understanding and compassion. It’s the same on a personal level: by changing our mindset, we create ripples of change in our relationships, communities, and beyond.”

Cookieteegh: “Kelly, your featured title, ‘The World I Made My Own,’ is incredibly captivating. Why did you choose this title, and what does it mean to you?”

Kelly Weekers : “Thank you, Cookieteegh! The title ‘The World I Made My Own’ represents the journey of taking complete ownership of my life—my choices, my mindset, and the way I interact with the world around me. It’s about realizing that we’re not just passive participants in life, letting circumstances shape us. Instead, we have the power to create the life we want by changing how we see ourselves and our environment.
This idea is deeply rooted in my belief that true transformation starts from within. When we take responsibility for our happiness, align with our values, and cultivate a positive mindset, the world around us begins to reflect that energy. For me, the title is not just a personal statement—it’s a universal truth that I hope inspires others to reclaim their power and make their world their own.”

Cookieteegh: “It seems then, Kelly, that ‘Making the World My Own’ is not just a title, but a mission—a call to create a life built on compassion, humanity, and purpose, instead of succumbing to anger, chaos, or despair. This philosophy truly reflects who you are as an author and the essence of your books. How does this align with the vision of Exhibit and the message you hope to share through this newsletter edition?”

Kelly Weekers: “You’re right, Cookieteegh. ‘The World I Made My Own’ is more than just a personal statement—it’s an invitation for everyone to embrace the power they have to shape their lives and, by extension, the world around them. My books, my work, and now this feature in Exhibit are all extensions of that belief. Through understanding ourselves, fostering compassion, and choosing happiness, we each can transform not only our environment but also inspire a ripple effect that touches our communities and beyond.
This special edition of the Exhibit is about reminding everyone that the world we live in begins within us. I hope readers will see it as a guide and a call to action to start their journey toward creating a life—and a world—they can truly call their own.”

Cookieteegh: “What a powerful and inspiring way to close, Kelly. Thank you for sharing your story, wisdom, and vision with us. I do not doubt that this Exhibit edition will resonate deeply with readers and inspire them to embark on their transformation journeys.”

Kelly Weekers: “Thank you so much, Cookieteegh. It’s been a pleasure to have this conversation with you. Here’s to creating a world of compassion, humanity, and limitless potential—together.”
