Slide 3: Europe’s Military Expenditure vs. Economic Relief:

Elaborated Question:
As citizens across Europe struggle with soaring inflation, housing crises, and failing public services, how do we justify the continued prioritization of military spending over direct investment in economic relief?
- Is security being redefined to suit government agendas?
- Who truly benefits from this arms race, and who pays the price?
Slide 4: Sanctioning Viktor Orbán;

Elaborated Question:
What does the sanctioning of Hungary’s Viktor Orbán reveal about dissent within the European Union?
- Are smaller nations penalized for challenging dominant EU narratives?
- Does democracy in the EU allow space for disagreement, or is it shaped by financial and political conformity?
Slide 5: Marine Le Pen’s Ruling and Global Implications;

Elaborated Question:
Why does the political establishment fear figures like Marine Le Pen—and what does her takedown say about the global handling of populist movements?
- Are populist leaders a genuine threat to democratic values or a threat to entrenched power structures?
- How can societies distinguish between dangerous extremism and legitimate grassroots frustration?
Slide 6: The War Narrative: Amplify Fear & Distract;

Elaborated Question:
One might think it is obvious in a military conflict who has won and who has lost. But is it? It seems to be commonly accepted that the Americans lost the Vietnam War, even though they won all or most of the actual battles on the ground. Wars, modern military theory states, are not won on the battlefield – they are won in people’s minds, in the cognitive domain. To secure the support of the population for participating in military operations, a government must present good, persuasive reasons.
Such reasons have come to be called “war narratives”. A war narrative can be seen as a reason whose job it is to bolster the conclusion that participation in a war, often far away from home territory, is legitimate and right. In this chapter, we discuss the content and function of war narratives: what they say, why they arise, the audiences they are aimed at, and how they fare over time. This latter issue is particularly important, we suggest, because war narratives may erode if or when counter-evidence piles up as military events unfold. If that happens, the narrative becomes a liability to its narrator. The audience becomes skeptical and retracts its support – the narrative fails to persuade, and the war might be lost.
To what extent is the ongoing war narrative being used as a tool to distract populations from internal economic collapse and political failure?
- How often are fear and foreign threats used to justify curtailing civil liberties?
- Are citizens being conditioned to accept war as a permanent backdrop rather than question its roots?
Slide 7: Democracy or Control? The Case of France, Germany, and the UK

Elaborated Question:
Do nations like France, Germany, and the UK still operate under the spirit of democracy—or has democracy become a polished façade for centralised control?
- When the media, corporate power, and government work in unison, who holds them accountable?
- Is public freedom expanding, or are we quietly surrendering autonomy in exchange for the illusion of order?
Slide 8: Final Reflection:
Overarching Question:
What truths lie hidden beneath the headlines we see every day—and why are some stories never told at all?
- Are we truly informed or merely comforted?
- What role do independent voices play in reshaping public understanding and reclaiming the narrative?
Economic Challenges and Military Spending
European nations are indeed facing economic pressures, including rising living costs and energy crises. Despite these challenges, countries like Poland are increasing their defense spending. Planning to prioritize military expenditure over domestic economic relief has sparked public debate.
Divergent Approaches to Ukraine:

Hungary and Slovakia have expressed reservations about continued financial and military support to Ukraine. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has opposed additional EU funding for Ukraine, advocating instead for supporting peace initiatives. Similarly, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that Slovakia would cease financial and military aid to Ukraine, emphasizing a preference for diplomatic solutions.
Political Shifts And Public Sentiment:
In Germany, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has doubled its vote share to 20.8%, becoming the second-largest party. In France, Marine Le Pen’s recent conviction for embezzlement and subsequent five-year ban from running for office have led to public demonstrations and claims of political bias, significant political shifts and growing public dissatisfaction with traditional political establishments. AL JAZEERA REUTERS Media Narratives and Public Discourse.
Media Narratives and Public Discourse
The media’s portrayal of these events varies, with some narratives emphasizing external threats and others focusing on internal challenges. Public figures like former U.S. President Donald Trump have criticized judicial actions against political leaders such as Le Pen, framing them as politically motivated. This discourse underscores the complex interplay between media narratives, public opinion, and political agendas. THE GUARDIAN In conclusion, the intersection of economic hardship, political realignments, and media narratives contributes to a complex and evolving European landscape. Addressing these challenges requires nuanced understanding and open dialogue.
The Inconvenient Truths: Europe’s Prioritization of Military Expenditure Over Domestic Economic Relief:
European nations are currently navigating a complex landscape of economic challenges and geopolitical tensions. A notable concern is the emphasis on military spending amidst pressing domestic needs. Countries like Germany and the UK are increasing defense budgets, a move that has sparked debates about the balance between ensuring national security and addressing economic hardships faced by citizens.
Do France, Germany, and the UK Truly Prioritize the Freedom of Their People?
The commitment of these nations to democratic values is evident in their policies and international engagements. However, the allocation of substantial resources to military endeavors raises questions about whether these actions align with the immediate needs and freedoms of their populations. The challenge lies in balancing external security commitments with internal socio-economic responsibilities.
Why Was Viktor Orbán Sanctioned?
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has faced criticism and potential sanctions from the European Union due to concerns over democratic backsliding and rule-of-law issues within Hungary. Additionally, Hungary’s decision to block significant EU financial aid to Ukraine has intensified tensions with Brussels, as it hampers collective efforts to support Ukraine amid ongoing conflicts.
Marine Le Pen’s Ruling and Its Global Implications.
Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s National Rally party, was recently convicted of embezzling European Parliament funds, resulting in a ban from holding public office. This ruling has ignited debates globally, with some viewing it as a justified legal action while others perceive it as a politically motivated move to suppress opposition. The case underscores the delicate balance between judicial processes and political dynamics in democratic societies.
Revisiting Age-Old Tactics: Amplifying Fear and Attributing Blame.

In times of internal challenges, governments may resort to emphasizing external threats to unify public sentiment and divert attention from domestic issues. The current focus on Russia as a predominant threat can be seen through this lens, where amplifying fear serves as a mechanism to justify increased military spending and consolidate political support. While addressing genuine security concerns is essential, it’s crucial for citizens to critically assess narratives and ensure that policies enacted in the name of security do not overshadow pressing domestic needs and civil liberties.
In conclusion, the intricate interplay between military expenditure, political decisions, and democratic values necessitates a vigilant and informed citizenry. By scrutinizing governmental actions and fostering open discourse, societies can strive to achieve a harmonious balance between ensuring national security and upholding the economic and social well-being of their people.
Introduction:
In an era of rising costs, growing unrest, and widening inequality, Europe’s leaders are making decisions that raise more questions than answers. While citizens grapple with unaffordable housing, soaring food prices, and vanishing social safety nets, billions are being funneled into military budgets. We’re told it’s about security—about defending democracy—but is that the whole truth?
This special edition of Assumpta Weekly News Magazine dares to look deeper.
With insights from Ms. Assumpta Gahutu and bold commentary from Ghanaian broadcast powerhouses Serwaa Amihere and Frema Adunyame, we strip back the polished press statements and examine what’s happening beneath the surface.
Why are dissenting voices in the EU being punished?
Why is populism treated like a threat instead of a response?
And why does it feel like fear is being weaponized while truth is being buried?
The Inconvenient Truths don’t offer comfort—it offers clarity. Because the collapse we’re witnessing isn’t just about policies or politics. It’s about power.
And power is shifting.
A Blueprint for Hope:
Mirian Vilela on the Earth Charter’s Vision for a Thriving and Sustainable Future
Mirian Vilela is the Executive Director of the Earth Charter International and a passionate advocate for ethical, sustainable development. In this exclusive feature, she offers a powerful perspective on navigating crises, choosing hope, and awakening global consciousness.

We are living in a time of great transformation. Amidst all the challenges, there are also vast possibilities. Can we change our current situation? Can we envision a different, better future?
There is a fierce struggle between the possible and the impossible—and people’s thinking often feels deeply polarized.
When we look at the news, we’re constantly bombarded with stories of crisis: war, poverty, climate change. Yes, these are part of our current reality. But I also believe that many good things are happening—positive changes that are beginning to take root.
Today, information can be shared at a volume and speed unimaginable just a few decades ago. Rather than being swept away by waves of despair, we must choose to turn our eyes toward the hope that shines in the darkness—and continue walking the path we believe in.
It’s a choice: to believe that change is possible or not. I see more people than ever—aware, concerned, and willing to contribute to the betterment of society—thanks to this new era of communication and global awareness. This is something we should celebrate.
I believe we are in the midst of a paradigm shift in our collective consciousness—especially in our understanding of our interdependence with the living world. I see vast potential for transformation toward a more caring, just, and sustainable world. A revolution in human consciousness is underway.
Of course, the challenges we face are immense. But I believe—and we can choose to believe—in the latent power of humanity to do good and to drive change.
There is always something each of us can do to help build a more peaceful and sustainable planet for future generations. Sometimes, it’s as simple as a smile to a neighbor.
No matter how small, every drop of hope matters. Every act of kindness and courage creates a ripple. And one day, those ripples will grow—and flourish.
In this week’s edition of Assumpta Weekly News Magazine, we explore both the truths that challenge us and the visions that inspire us.
From The Inconvenient Truths to A Blueprint for Hope, this issue reminds us: even in collapse, the seeds of change are growing. Read the full issue at: assumptagh.live/

Yes, the piece titled “A Blueprint for Hope” by Mirian Vilela relates to our article “The Inconvenient Truths”—though they approach the world through different lenses.
Here’s The Truth:
- Tone & Focus:
“The Inconvenient Truths” takes a bold, investigative tone—exposing elite power dynamics, government priorities, and media manipulation.
“A Blueprint for Hope” offers a more reflective, optimistic view, encouraging people to believe in change and take part in a collective awakening.- Shared Message:
Both acknowledge that we are living in times of crisis and transformation. Both recognize that the current systems are failing—but where “The Inconvenient Truths” challenges the power structures, “A Blueprint for Hope” challenges individual passivity and encourages hopeful agency. - Paradigm Shift:
Your article highlights the collapse of the elite and the rise of the common people. Mirian Vilela speaks to a paradigm shift in consciousness—an awakening to our shared humanity and environmental interdependence. These are two sides of the same coin: systemic breakdown and grassroots rebirth. - Call to Action:
Both articles end with an empowering call: to seek truth (The Inconvenient Truths), and to believe in the power of individual and collective change (A Blueprint for Hope).

Frema Adunyame (warmly, confidently):
Good evening, distinguished viewers. It is both a privilege and a responsibility to be with you tonight. I’m Frema Adunyame, and I’m honored to welcome you to a bold and necessary conversation brought to you by Assumpta Weekly News Magazine—a platform that refuses to look away from the stories the mainstream dares not touch.
Joining me are two phenomenal women—my brilliant colleague, Serwaa Amihere, whose journalistic clarity and courage continue to shape national discourse, and the visionary behind this groundbreaking publication, Ms. Assumpta Gahutu, CEO of Assumpta Newsletter Publications and Principal of Babies and Toddlers Daycare.
(turns with a gracious nod)
Ladies, good evening. Thank you for being here.

Serwaa Amihere (with a steady gaze):
Good evening, Frema. Always an honor. Tonight’s topic is not just necessary. It’s urgent.

Assumpta Gahutu (calm, articulate):
Thank you, Frema. It’s a pleasure to be part of this space—where clarity dares to meet truth, and silence finally gives way to voice.

Frema (pauses meaningfully, then begins):
Let’s dive straight into what we’re here for.
The Inconvenient Truths—our lead article in this special edition—dares to ask the hard questions. It confronts an unsettling but increasingly obvious reality: that some of Europe’s most powerful governments have adopted a vision of leadership that prioritizes conflict over care, war over welfare, and optics over truth.
We must ask: When European leaders channel billions into military expansion while their citizens endure failing healthcare systems, unaffordable housing, and deepening inequality, whose freedom are they defending?

Serwaa (leaning forward):
Exactly. Because when we look closely, the so-called “security” narrative begins to crack. Germany is doubling its defense budget. The UK is slashing welfare while boosting arms contracts. France is rallying behind militarism even as public workers strike for livable wages.
It’s not just misguided—it’s systemic. It shows a vision of life that lacks a soul. One that reduces governance to fear management and leadership to military theatrics.

Assumpta Gahutu (thoughtfully):
And it’s the children who feel it most.
As someone who works with early childhood education, I see firsthand what happens when governments ignore the foundational needs of society. While leaders invest in weapons, many parents in so-called “developed nations” can’t afford daycare, nutritious meals, or proper healthcare for their children. That’s not just economic neglect—it’s a philosophical failure.
They have forgotten that real power is not demonstrated through tanks on parade but through how a nation nurtures its young, supports its mothers, and protects its most vulnerable.

Frema (nods slowly):
You raise a crucial point, Assumpta.
And the consequences of this misalignment aren’t just material—they’re spiritual. Citizens across Europe are losing trust. Populist movements are rising—not necessarily because of extremism, but because people are tired of being invisible.

Serwaa:
This brings us to Viktor Orbán. He challenges the EU consensus on Ukraine, and suddenly—he’s sanctioned. Hungary speaks of diplomacy instead of weapons, and they’re treated as outliers.
Are we seeing democratic disagreement or a new orthodoxy where any deviation from the war machine is punished?
Assumpta:
It’s a dangerous moment when dissent becomes disloyalty. Democracy cannot thrive if the only voices allowed are those that echo power. This is precisely why independent media must step in—to protect space for reflection and truth.

Frema:
And speaking of space for truth…
Marine Le Pen’s conviction, the framing of Russia as a monolith of evil, and the weaponization of fear—these aren’t isolated tactics. They’re part of an old playbook: Distract. Blame. Control.

Serwaa:
Yet the people are not asleep. Germany’s AfD surging. French streets erupting in protest. Slovaks reject endless war support. What we are seeing is not extremism—it’s awakening.

Assumpta (with quiet power):
The truth is never convenient for those who profit from the lie. But this moment? It demands courage. It demands that we, as journalists, mothers, citizens—ask not only what’s being said, but what’s being hidden.

Serwaa-: “The Inconvenient Truths. Just the title sends a message. A mirror to a continent wrestling with its contradictions. Billions are spent on arms while pensioners freeze in council flats, and single mothers skip meals to afford rent. This isn’t just neglect. It’s betrayal dressed up in national security.

Assumpta: (nodding gently) Indeed. And yet, amidst this imbalance, there is another truth — a quieter one. A *Blueprint for Hope*, as shared so eloquently by Mirian Vilela. Her words remind us that even in times of collapse, the human spirit yearns to rebuild. Europe, with its long history of war and wisdom, must now decide what legacy it wants to leave.

Frema: Exactly. The legacy question is crucial. Europe once defined itself as the vanguard of human rights and democracy. But today? That image is cracking under the weight of surveillance laws, arms deals, and austerity. Mirian challenges us to believe that change *is* possible — that a revolution in human consciousness is already underway.

Serwaa: And the irony is — Europe *could lead this new consciousness if it chooses to. Not by policing borders or fueling conflict, but by embodying the very spirit Mirian speaks of: *selfless commitment to peace, sustainability, and interdependence.

Assumpta: What a different world that would be. Imagine EU leaders meeting not to negotiate weapon shipments but to invest in ecological restoration, youth mentorship, and holistic education. That is the Europe Mirian dreams of. A continent that not only protects its people but uplifts the entire planet.
Frema: And that dream is not naive. It is visionary. Because the path to peace is not paved by tanks, but by trust. Not by sanctions, but by solidarity. Europe must cherish this great desire of Mirian Vilela — and fight, yes fight, with the same urgency and fire it has given to war — but this time, for life.

Serwaa: Let us not forget: every great shift in history began with a small group of people who dared to believe. If European leaders could see their citizens not as soldiers of an empire but as stewards of a shared future, we would witness something historic—a renaissance not of dominance but of dignity.

Assumpta: And that is the journalism we stand for — not the loud noise of politics, but the quiet, enduring truth of people and possibility. Let Europe hear the cry of its people. Let them cherish hope not as an abstract virtue but as a policy — a path — a duty. This panel discussion is part of the “Journalism of Neglected Topics” Special Edition. Read the full feature and subscribe at [assumptagh.live](http://assumptagh.live/

Frema (closing the first segment):
That’s precisely what The Inconvenient Truth aims to do. This issue is more than an article—it’s a mirror. And perhaps, for the powers that be, it’s also a warning: that the era of blind obedience is over.
When people begin to see—see—the narrative changes. Thank you all.
