Gwen-Addo on the Rise of Nutrition Café: Too Much of a Good Thing?

Some may ask: “Is the expansion of Nutrition Café across Ghana excessive? Is there really added value in having so many locations?”
The answer lies in understanding the purpose and impact behind the brand.
Nutrition Café isn’t just another restaurant chain. It’s a mission-driven initiative designed to serve Ghanaians and the broader African continent, where access to nutritious and nourishment-centered meals is often limited due to healthcare and dietary challenges.
Much like global giants such as Starbucks or McDonald’s, NutritionCafe has developed its own unique formula — but with a critical distinction: every menu item is crafted with intention, backed by science, and created by certified nutritionists and culinary health experts.
Unlike traditional fast-food chains, NutritionCafe is not simply about convenience — it’s about education, healing, and nourishment. Each location is a beacon of wellness, aiming to empower individuals and families with access to balanced, nutrient-rich food that meets both cultural tastes and dietary needs.
With every new branch, NutritionCafe fulfills a deeper purpose: to educate, serve, and transform the way Ghanaians — and Africans at large — view and consume food.

Opening Introductions – For Our Global Readers

A celebrated broadcast journalist, TV presenter, women’s advocate, and media personality, Berla is known for her integrity, empathy, and bold presence. With her voice, she empowers, educates, and elevates conversations that shape national and global narratives.

Gwen-Addo, our guest today, is a visionary entrepreneur, strategist, mindset coach, and faith-led leader. She’s the powerhouse behind Hair Senta, the founder of HIBS AFRICA, author of the transformational book Direction, and the CEO of CagaHeights and The Leading Senta. Gwen-Addo’s impact stretches beyond boardrooms — her heart beats for people. She co-founded Owusuwaa Online Newsletter & Lifestyle Magazine, and now, through NutritionCafe, she’s changing the way Ghanaians — and Africans — eat, live, and thrive.
The Dialogue Begins

Berla Mundi:
Gwen-Addo, it is such an honor to host you today on behalf of Owusuwaa Health Weekly. You are an entrepreneur. A Leadership and Mindset Coach. A Christian. An Author. A Strategist. And of course, the CEO and Founder of Hair Senta, HIBS AFRICA, and so much more.

This Friday, we’re proud to launch our newsletter article titled:
“Home Dietitian. Healthy Eating.” – A Lifestyle Revolution Begins at Home
Gwen-Addo, the world wants to know — why are you promoting NutritionCafe so intentionally? You’ve already achieved national recognition for upholding quality standards in care-based restaurants. So, what’s behind it?
Gwen-Addo: On the Rise of NutritionCafe

Gwen-Addo:
Thank you so much, Berla. I’m deeply honored to be here — and grateful for this platform that Owusuwaa Health Weekly has built. This conversation matters.
Now, when people ask if the expansion of NutritionCafe is “too much of a good thing,” I understand their concern. But we need to look beyond numbers — we must look at purpose and impact.
NutritionCafe is not just a restaurant chain. It’s a mission — a vision birthed out of a deep need across Ghana and the African continent. Many of our communities face dietary-related health challenges due to limited access to nutritious food, lack of nutrition education, and overwhelming fast-food culture.
That’s why NutritionCafe exists. It’s not just about serving meals. It’s about healing lives through food, educating people about what’s on their plate, and offering options that are backed by science, approved by registered nutritionists, and crafted by health-focused chefs.

Berla Mundi:
So NutritionCafe is more than a restaurant — it’s a wellness movement?

Gwen-Addo:
Absolutely. In the same way Starbucks created a community around coffee, or McDonald’s scaled fast convenience, NutritionCafe is building a nutritional ecosystem — but with a soul. Our chefs are not just cooks; they are trained nutrition professionals. Every dish is measured, tested, and designed to meet real dietary needs.
We’re also here to educate families, support community health, and make wellness accessible and local. That’s the deeper purpose: to transform the way Ghanaians — and eventually all Africans — view, access, and enjoy nutritious meals.
Great! Let’s continue the interview dialogue with deeper insights into Nutrition Cafe’s community impact, menu design, faith-driven leadership, and Gwen-Addo’s personal mission as a coach and change-maker. This extended section flows naturally from the first part.

Berla Mundi:
You’ve described NutritionCafe as a nutritional ecosystem — which I find incredibly powerful. Let’s talk about the real-life impact. Have you seen tangible changes in communities where NutritionCafe is active?

Gwen-Addo:
Yes, Berla — and honestly, that’s where the fulfillment comes in. In neighborhoods where we’ve launched, we’re seeing people become more conscious about what they eat. It’s not just about weight loss or numbers — it’s about how people feel: stronger, more energetic, more informed.
We’ve had mothers who were battling with their children’s sugar intake, now telling us their kids love our low-sugar nourishment drinks. Elderly folks with dietary restrictions now have tasty meals that align with their health plans. We even see entrepreneurs opening health kiosks or mini cafés inspired by what we’re doing — and we support that!
We’re building a chain of wellness and empowerment, not just restaurants.

Berla Mundi:
Let’s dig into the food itself. You said every dish is approved by a registered nutritionist. What’s your process for menu creation at NutritionCafe?

Gwen-Addo:
Great question! Our menu is created through a three-layered process:
- Cultural Relevance – We begin with local staples like waakye, kontomire, or Banku. We don’t eliminate our culture — we refine it.
- Scientific Balance – Our dietitians evaluate the calories, salt, sugar, fiber, and protein balance. They work with nutrition chefs to reformulate traditional dishes into healthy alternatives without losing flavor.
- Presentation & Pleasure – Food must be enjoyable. We want meals that are colorful, portion-controlled, and fun — even for picky eaters.
So, you’ll see things like spiced grilled chicken with moringa rice, or zobo-infused smoothies with chia — all packed, delivered frozen, and ready to pop into the microwave.

Berla Mundi:
That’s phenomenal. And I love that you’re not stripping away identity but rather elevating it.
Now, let’s switch gears for a moment — you are a Leadership and Mindset Coach, a Christian, and someone whose faith is central to your mission. How has that influenced the way you’ve built Nutrition Café and everything else?

Gwen-Addo:
Faith is my foundation. Every business I’ve started — Hair Senta, HIBS AFRICA, The Leading Senta — has been rooted in a calling to serve, not just to profit. I pray before I plan. I lead with humility, and I try to build people, not just systems.
With Nutrition Café, God made it clear: this is not just food. This is ministry through nourishment. We’re healing bodies, lifting spirits, and showing people that wellness is a divine right, not a luxury.
As a coach, I constantly remind my clients that success starts in the mind and the spirit. If you believe you are worthy of health, wholeness, and impact — you’ll begin to make choices that align with that belief.

Berla Mundi:
I love that — “ministry through nourishment.” Gwen, that’s powerful. For those who look up to you — especially young women entrepreneurs across Africa — what’s one mindset principle you live by?

Gwen-Addo:
Thank you, Berla. I’d say: “Obedience unlocks overflow.”
When you’re obedient to your calling, to your purpose, and to serving others — the doors you didn’t even knock on will open. Stay aligned, stay excellent, and stay generous.

Berla Mundi:
Thank you, Gwen-Addo. That’s a word!
And to all our readers — be sure to check out Nutrition Café, now open across Ghana. Dive into our cover feature:

The People Are the Frontliners
Berla Mundi:
Gwen, you’ve spent many years in the beauty industry, building powerful brands like Hair Senta and HIBS-Africa, and now you’ve stepped boldly into the food and healthcare space with Nutrition Café. What’s the most important value you’ve learned that has shaped you — not just as an entrepreneur, but as a person who constantly promotes purpose-driven brands.

Gwen-Addo:
That’s a beautiful question, Berla. You know, for me, it’s not just about becoming a better businesswoman or even a good person — it’s about being a better human being. Someone who deeply respects every person, no matter where they come from or what role they play in society.
Because truthfully — Ghanaians and Africans at large are the Frontliners. The farmers, the teachers, the market women, the nurses, the taxi drivers, the single mothers, the community builders — they’re holding the economy together. They are the ones who carry this continent on their backs every day.
And if we truly value them, then they must eat well, live well, and be seen.
That’s why I listen closely. Especially during critical moments — when someone is struggling with diet, energy, affordability — I pay attention. NutritionCafe is my response to their unspoken needs.
My greatest goal is to exert a positive influence as I work, and to create space for mutual understanding, appreciation, and support — for the sake of our people.

Berla Mundi:
That touches me deeply, Gwen. It really does.
Because I truly believe that even in the darkest moments — in sickness, in poverty, in crisis — there are always seeds of hope. I’ve seen it in communities that have been through so much. I’ve seen it in mothers who give even when they have nothing left. I’ve seen it in small businesses that rise from ashes.
There is always the possibility for things to get better. But only when we recognize that the people are the heart of every solution.
That’s why this conversation, this issue of Owusuwaa Health Weekly, and this work you’re doing through Nutrition Café are so important. It’s not just food. It’s dignity. It’s strategy. It’s restoration.

Gwen-Addo:
Exactly. And that’s why we say: “Home Dietitian. Healthy Eating.” — because transformation starts right where people are. In their homes, on their streets, in their kitchens.
This isn’t just a campaign. It’s a revolution of care. For the mothers, the elders, the children — the frontliners.
🏡 “Home Dietitian” – More Than a Concept

Berla Mundi:
I think what’s most inspiring is how you’ve made something as big as national wellness feel so personal and attainable. It brings us to the core message of this issue:
“Home Dietitian. Healthy Eating.”
Gwen, what does that phrase truly mean to you — beyond the headline?

Gwen-Addo:
Berla, “Home Dietitian” is not just a catchy title — it’s a lifestyle philosophy. And here’s the truth:
👉🏽 “Home Dietitian” is nothing but NutritionCafe.
The food you buy, the nourishment drinks you enjoy — they are your dietitian at home. Each meal has been scientifically balanced, chef-crafted, and guided by registered nutritionists — so you don’t need to overthink. You simply eat with peace of mind, knowing it’s been planned with your health in mind.
And now, we’ve made it even more accessible and modern — with the NutritionCafe app, anyone can order online from any of our locations across Ghana. Whether you’re in Accra, Kumasi, or Takoradi, your healthy, delicious, dietitian-approved meal is just a few taps away.
A Lifestyle Revolution Begins at Home

Berla Mundi:
That’s what makes it revolutionary — it doesn’t ask people to change overnight or travel far. It simply brings wellness home, where it belongs. Where healing begins. Where families are raised. Where the frontliners return after a long day.
Gwen, you’ve reminded us today that the power to live well is within reach, and that no matter who you are, you deserve nourishment that sustains your body and your dreams.
Gwen-Addo (Final Words):

Thank you, Berla. Thank you, Owusuwaa Health Weekly. And to every reader — remember this:
Healthy living is not a luxury. It’s your right.
With every bite, every sip, every choice — you’re building a stronger you, and a better Ghana.
So, whether it’s from your table, your phone, or your neighborhood Nutrition Café — know that you’re not alone. We’re building this future together.
