Gwen: A Quiet Revolution

Gwen-Addo
In this country of ours, we cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of the people. When we grow indifferent, hatred and selfishness take root, and eventually, we fall into a state of spiritual paralysis.
As CEO of Hair-Senta, I have embraced the spirit of a vow—a commitment to the peace and prosperity of this nation without sparing any effort. My life and actions have always been dedicated to actualizing this vow, demonstrating the same spirit each day. The initiatives we have launched at Hair-Senta are a testament to this, encouraging all to draw from the infinite fountain of wisdom, compassion, and courage that lies within each of us.
Initially, “A vow sounds pretty daunting. For someone like me, it feels like a big leap, and I’m not sure if I’m ready to take that step.”

“I understand if it sounds intimidating, but allow me to explain why choosing a path dedicated to the happiness of others is so vital. For example, if you aspire to be a leader, remember that a true leader invests in others. Leaders are called forth especially in difficult times to guide citizens along the correct path.
In his work, “The Symphony of Life” (Dec 2011), Daisaku Ikeda quotes Nichiren Daishonin’s Gosho:

SGI-President Daisaku Ikeda
“There is a path that birds follow as they fly through the sky. There is a path that fish follow as they swim through the sea. There is a path that the stars follow as they travel the heavens. And there is a path of principle that human beings should follow. This is none other than the path of peace.
“As leaders, we don’t get to choose whether or not we work for the happiness and prosperity of the people. Leadership is inherently about guiding people toward peace and prosperity. At Hair Senta, both the CEO and the employees share the same goal and determination for collective success.
“This special edition captures the essence of Gwen-Addo’s leadership, her unwavering commitment to her community, and her inspiring influence on Ghana. It highlights her journey, celebrates her triumphs, and emphasises the shared spirit of unity and progress at Hair Senta.
Gwen, the CEO of Hair Senta, a hair extension specialist, has made her salon a beacon of beauty and inspiration in her community. For Gwen, Hair Senta is more than just a business; it’s a creative sanctuary where she returns to find balance amidst life’s ups and downs.

Tsasi:”Good afternoon, Gwen, and thank you so much for taking the time to sit with me today! I must say, just being here, surrounded by the wonderful atmosphere you’ve cultivated at Hair Senta, is already inspiring. You seem to bring joy and energy wherever you go.

“Gwen (smiling warmly):”Thank you, Tsasi. It’s my pleasure to be here with you. Hair Senta has always been a space for people to feel uplifted and connected, and I’m grateful that it resonates with so many.

“Tsasi:”Absolutely, and speaking of connection, your bond with the people of Ghana is extraordinary. In fact, Ghanaians hold fond memories of participating in Hair Senta with you. Many have said that their experiences with you were not just business but something deeper—something meaningful. How do you manage to forge such strong relationships?

“Gwen (thoughtfully):”It’s really about listening—truly listening to people. When I visit our boutiques, I make it a point to engage with everyone, whether it’s a customer or an employee. We laugh, we sing, and sometimes we share a few jokes. But beyond the joy and entertainment, it’s my deep concern for their progress and happiness that strengthens our bond. I believe people feel that genuine care, and that’s what stays with them.

“Tsasi:”And that care, that unwavering commitment, shines through in everything you do. As we approach the 11th of October, a day after you celebrate your 41st birthday anniversary of triumph, how do you feel about this milestone? A ‘brilliant 10th October’ indeed, marking a fresh departure toward new frontiers.

“Gwen (smiling):”It’s surreal, honestly. Each year brings new challenges, but with them, new opportunities for growth. I don’t see it so much as a personal achievement, but as a collective victory—a testament to the people around me. Whether it’s at Hair Senta or within the communities I work with, our shared commitment to justice, unity, and joy is what keeps me moving forward. The real celebration is seeing that spirit thrive in others.

“Tsasi (nodding):“Your journey has indeed been remarkable, and your courage to take on challenges head-on is truly inspiring. You’ve mentioned before that you live by a vow—a commitment to peace and prosperity. It sounds so profound, almost daunting. How do you keep that spirit alive every day?

“Gwen (leaning forward slightly, with a calm but determined expression):”Living by a vow can sound intimidating, I agree, especially when it seems like such a big leap. But for me, it’s not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about showing up every day with the intention to contribute. As leaders, whether in business, society, or our personal lives, we don’t get to choose whether we take on responsibility—we’re called to it. Especially in difficult times, it’s our job to guide people toward peace and prosperity. And that’s something I will never forget.

“Tsasi:”So for you, leadership is more than a role; it’s a calling—a path of principle, like the one Daisaku Ikeda spoke of when he referenced Nichiren Daishonin’s teachings: ‘There is a path that birds follow as they fly through the sky, a path that fish follow as they swim through the sea… and there is a path of peace that humans should follow.

’”Gwen (nodding with conviction):“Exactly. It’s a path we’re all on, whether we realize it or not. At Hair Senta, this spirit is shared by everyone, not just me as CEO. It’s in the dedication of every employee, every smile that greets a customer, and every goal we set together. We’re all striving for the same thing—prosperity, not just for ourselves but for our community, for our nation. That’s the essence of what we do.

“Tsasi (leaning back, clearly moved):“That’s such a powerful message, Gwen. Your dedication to uniting people and guiding them toward a brighter future is palpable. I can see why people feel so connected to you—your leadership isn’t just about running a business; it’s about advancing together, as a family, as a nation.

“Gwen (smiling, with a glimmer in her eyes):”Yes, exactly. It’s not about any one person. It’s about all of us, working hand in hand, advancing together. That’s what Hair Senta represents, and that’s what I hope to continue inspiring in the people of Ghana.

“Tsasi (with admiration):”As we approach the release of this special edition of Aboronoma Lifestyle Magazine, I have no doubt that readers will be inspired by your story, your journey, and your unwavering spirit. Gwen, thank you for being such a shining light and for sharing your heart with us today.

“Gwen (with gratitude):”Thank you, Tsasi. It’s been a privilege to sit with you today and reflect on this journey. Together, we continue to build a brighter future for Ghana—one step, one smile, one act of kindness at a time.
