EXCLUSIVE MESSAGE
Everything That Happens To Us Has A Meaning — Keep Pressing Forward.
Overview
Assumpta Gahutu seeks to shed light on the reality of the pain Ghanaians carry when accompanying the dead. In Ghanaian culture, grief is expressed not quietly, but through visible anguish — a reflection of the depth of love held for those who have passed on. Paradoxically, it is in death that the richness of human affection is most openly displayed.
As the principal of Babies and Toddlers Daycare, I see my purpose as nurturing children with compassion and love, helping them grow into capable individuals who will contribute positively to society and enjoy lasting happiness. This mission mirrors the loving actions of their parents — the very epitome of compassionate care. But compassion should not be reserved only for moments of loss or grief. To guide our nation, Ghana, toward true prosperity and happiness, we must cultivate and practice compassion every day, shaping lives with care, understanding, and kindness long before life’s inevitable hardships arise.

FEATURED TOPIC: SUFFERING HELPS US UNDERSTAND OTHERS

Cookieteegh (Host):
Good day to our readers worldwide! I’m Cookieteegh, a broadcast journalist and TV presenter from Ghana, passionate about exploring the intersections of culture, education, and human dignity. Today, we are honored to host a very special guest whose work has touched countless lives.
Joining us is Ms. Assumpta Gahutu — a lawyer, the principal of Babies and Toddlers Daycare, and a passionate advocate for human dignity. Through her leadership, she nurtures young children with compassion and care, instilling values that will guide them into becoming positive contributors to society. Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Gahutu has dedicated her life to understanding the human experience, reflecting deeply on how struggles can foster empathy and insight.
Welcome, Ms. Gahutu, to Assumpta Online Weekly Magazine. We are truly delighted to have you for today’s special edition.

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Thank you so much, Cookieteegh. I am honored to be here and to share reflections that are close to my heart — about compassion, human dignity, and how our challenges can illuminate the lives of others.

Cookieteegh:
Today’s featured topic is particularly meaningful: “Suffering Helps Us Understand Others.” The idea is that through suffering, we begin to see each other more clearly. Understanding others begins with understanding suffering. Life’s hardships, while painful, carry meaning — what seems unbearable can become purposeful if we continue to press forward.
Ms. Gahutu, could you share your thoughts on this article with our readers? How do you see suffering shaping our understanding of one another, both in life and in leadership?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Thank you, Cookieteegh. I believe that suffering is a profound teacher. When we face hardship ourselves, we gain a deeper understanding of the struggles of others. It is through empathy — the ability to feel alongside someone else — that we connect with them meaningfully.
In my work with children at the daycare, I see firsthand how compassion grows when we take the time to understand each child’s challenges. Similarly, in leadership, whether guiding young minds, communities, or even a nation, recognizing the pain and experiences of others allows us to act with wisdom and care. Human dignity, to me, is rooted in this recognition: honoring the worth of every individual, even — or especially — in their most difficult moments.

Cookieteegh:
That is beautifully said. And it ties directly into the values we hope to nurture through education and culture. How do you see religion, culture, and education intersecting to shape a more compassionate 21st century?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Each of these elements plays a critical role. Religion can teach us about love, forgiveness, and service; culture provides the rituals and stories that embed empathy and collective care into our daily lives; and education equips us with the tools to think critically and act responsibly. When these three converge, they create a framework where compassion is not just an emotion, but a practice — something we live out in every decision and interaction.
For example, in Ghanaian culture, grief is expressed openly, showing the depth of love and communal support when someone passes. It reminds us that compassion is visible, active, and shared. If we carry that same intentionality into everyday life, we can build societies where suffering is met with understanding, and individuals are uplifted through solidarity and care.

Cookieteegh:
So, in essence, understanding suffering becomes a foundation for building human dignity and a compassionate society. Ms. Gahutu, for our readers who want to cultivate these values in their own lives, what practical advice would you offer?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Start small. Listen actively, help without expecting recognition, and reflect on your own experiences to deepen empathy for others. Encourage children to express feelings openly and teach them the value of kindness in every interaction. And most importantly, remember that compassion is a choice we make every day — in homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. When practiced consistently, it transforms not just individual lives, but the society as a whole.

Cookieteegh:
Ms. Gahutu, your reflections on grief, compassion, and the visible depth of human love are truly moving. How do you see this understanding of suffering shaping our broader society, not just in moments of loss but in everyday life?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
As the principal of Babies and Toddlers Daycare, I see my purpose as nurturing children with compassion and love, helping them grow into capable individuals who will contribute positively to society and enjoy lasting happiness. This mission mirrors the loving actions of their parents — the very epitome of compassionate care. But compassion should not be reserved only for moments of loss or grief.
To guide our nation, Ghana, toward true prosperity and happiness, we must cultivate and practice compassion every day, shaping lives with care, understanding, and kindness long before life’s inevitable hardships arise.

Cookieteegh:
Beautifully said. In essence, suffering is not only personal but communal — it teaches us to see one another with clarity and empathy. Would you share a final reflection for our readers?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Even when you look at Europeans, they come from a place of unbearable cold, with land that often couldn’t easily grow crops. Through this pain and suffering, they were able to find ways to sustain themselves and build thriving societies.
Where we Africans, we are blessed with abundant resources — fertile land, rich cultures, and natural wealth. Yet, why aren’t we able to make the most of what we have? Often, it is because we lack compassion for one another. True progress and happiness are born not only from resources, but from our care, empathy, and solidarity. Without these, our potential remains unrealized.

Cookieteegh:
That is a profound observation, Ms. Gahutu. So, the challenge is not only external, but internal — cultivating the compassion, understanding, and shared responsibility necessary for lasting growth and fulfillment.

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Exactly, Cookieteegh. If we nurture compassion from a young age, teach it in our schools, and practice it in our communities, we can transform hardship into opportunity, grief into empathy, and abundance into shared prosperity. This is how we build not just stronger nations, but more humane societies.

Cookieteegh:
Thank you, Ms. Gahutu. Your reflections remind us that suffering is both a teacher and a call to action — to see each other clearly, act with compassion, and transform our shared experiences into meaningful progress.

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Pain is one of life’s greatest mysteries — its presence can feel unbearable, its purpose incomprehensible. Through suffering, we see each other more clearly.
Everything that happens to us has meaning. Though we may be sad and filled with pain — even when it seems unbearable — we find purpose as long as we keep pressing forward.Suffering Helps Us Understand Others
