Ahmed Hussein Suale’s murder, the failure of the judiciary, and Kennedy Agyapong’s legal downfall expose the deep contradictions within Ghana’s justice system.

But the U.S. court ruling offers a glimmer of hope—it proves that no one is above accountability in a fair legal system.
📢 Stay tuned for this must-read edition!
Introduction
In a landmark decision, the Superior Court of New Jersey has ordered former Ghanaian Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, to pay $18 million in damages to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
This ruling stems from defamatory statements made by Agyapong during a 2021 interview on The Daddy Fred Show, where he labeled Anas a “criminal” and a “thief” and falsely implicated him in the murder of fellow journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale (MyJoyOnline).
Anas, renowned for his undercover journalism exposing corruption and human rights abuses, argued that these baseless allegations not only tarnished his reputation but also endangered his life. The U.S. court’s ruling highlights the serious consequences of defamation and underscores the protection of journalists in the global media landscape (Pulse.com.gh).
This verdict stands in stark contrast to a prior ruling in Ghana. In March 2024, an Accra High Court dismissed Anas’s defamation lawsuit against Agyapong, ruling in favor of the politician. The Ghanaian court not only rejected Anas’s claims but also condemned his journalistic methods, controversially labeling them as “investigative terrorism” (MyJoyOnline).
The tragic murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a key partner of Anas in his Tiger Eye PI investigations, remains one of Ghana’s darkest moments in the fight against corruption.

Before his assassination, Agyapong publicly revealed Hussein-Suale’s identity on his television station, NET2, and called on the public to “deal with him.” This reckless act, widely condemned by press freedom advocates, is believed to have endangered Hussein-Suale’s life. Yet, despite public outcry and international attention, Ghanaian authorities have failed to hold anyone accountable for his murder (BBC News).
Anas’s legal victory in the U.S. is more than a personal win—it is a powerful statement on press freedom, justice, and accountability. It serves as a wake-up call to politicians who believe they can intimidate and silence the media without consequence. Above all, it reinforces the fundamental principle that truth must always prevail over misinformation (GBC Ghana Online).
The Silent Country
1. Ahmed Suale’s Death – A Mystery Wrapped in Silence

Ahmed Hussein-Suale, an investigative journalist with Tiger Eye PI, was gunned down in Accra on January 16, 2019. His murder was a chilling message to journalists and anti-corruption activists in Ghana. Before his assassination, Kennedy Agyapong had displayed his images on national television, calling on the public to “deal with him” if they saw him. This reckless exposure of Ahmed’s identity was seen by many as an incitement to violence.
Yet, years later, his killers remain unknown, and justice is nowhere in sight. The Ghanaian authorities, despite international pressure, have failed to conduct a thorough investigation. Was Ahmed’s death a result of his fearless work in exposing corruption? Did powerful figures in Ghana silence him? These are questions that remain unanswered. In a country where political connections shield the guilty, Ahmed’s case is a tragic reflection of Ghana’s deep-seated culture of impunity.
2. Ghana’s Judicial System – A Court for the Powerful, Not the People

The Ghanaian judiciary, once seen as a pillar of justice, has become a tool for the wealthy and politically connected. Time and again, corruption cases involving high-profile individuals end in weak rulings or outright dismissals. When Anas Aremeyaw Anas brought a defamation case against Kennedy Agyapong in Ghana, the courts ruled in favor of Agyapong, labeling Anas’s investigative work as “investigative terrorism.”
This was not just a legal defeat; it was a clear message that the system does not protect truth-seekers. In Ghana, money and influence determine justice. Politicians, businessmen, and corrupt officials manipulate the system, leaving ordinary citizens without hope. Ahmed Suale’s case is just one of many examples where the law fails to serve the people but works in favor of the elite.
3. Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Fight for Truth – Journalism Under Siege

Anas Aremeyaw Anas has built a reputation for exposing corruption at the highest levels of government, sports, and law enforcement. His undercover journalism has led to the downfall of judges, politicians, and public officials. However, his work has also made him a target.
Despite the threats and attacks on his credibility, Anas remains committed to his mission. The smear campaigns against him, led by Kennedy Agyapong and other powerful figures, aimed to discredit his work and silence him. But the recent U.S. court ruling against Agyapong proves that truth still has power when placed in the hands of an impartial judicial system.
4. Kennedy Agyapong’s Fall – The End of Impunity?

For years, Kennedy Agyapong portrayed himself as untouchable in Ghana. He used his wealth and influence to insult, intimidate, and silence critics. His attacks on Anas and his role in exposing Ahmed Suale’s identity were clear abuses of power.
But when the battle shifted to a U.S. court, where justice is not for sale, Agyapong lost. The court found him guilty of defamation and ordered him to pay $18 million in damages to Anas. This verdict was more than just a financial penalty; it was a symbolic victory against impunity.
Had the case been tried in Ghana, the outcome would likely have been different. This raises an important question: Is Ghana’s judicial system truly independent, or is it a playground for the powerful?
Conclusion – Will Ghana Remain a Silent Country?

Ahmed Suale’s murder, the failures of the judiciary, and Kennedy Agyapong’s legal downfall expose the deep contradictions within Ghana’s justice system. As long as corruption and impunity reign, Ghana will remain a silent country—where truth is suppressed, justice is denied, and the powerful remain above the law.
But the U.S. court ruling offers a glimmer of hope. It proves that no one is above accountability in a fair legal system. Will this case inspire real change in Ghana? Or will silence continue to rule? That remains to be seen.
The Silent Country: The Destruction of Truth and the Power of Division;

“It’s easy to destroy a Black man! Because his people will help you do it.”
Throughout history, Black men who have dared to challenge oppressive systems have often faced not just external resistance but betrayal from within. From Marcus Garvey, Kwame Nkrumah, and Patrice Lumumba to Thomas Sankara, misinformation, manipulation, and division have been used as tools to silence those who sought freedom, accountability, and unity.
The same system that oppressed and killed Africa’s selfless leaders is the same one that allowed the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, executed through the very hands of his fellow Ghanaian men. The oppressive forces that seek to silence truth have turned brothers against each other—Kennedy Agyapong against Anas Aremeyaw Anas, politicians against the journalists who seek to inform, and citizens against those who dare to challenge corruption.
The Weaponization of Division: A Strategy of the Oppressor;

Why does this keep happening? Is it fear, ignorance, or something deeper? History reveals a dangerous pattern: When those in power feel threatened by truth, they sow division among their people, undermine their will, and use betrayal as a weapon. These are the workings of the devil king of the sixth heaven, forces that thrive on confusion, greed, and suppression of justice.
Journalists who stand for truth should fear their governments and MPs—not bandits, burglars, night raiders, or foreign oppressors. Those who speak out for justice, like Ahmed Suale and Anas Aremeyaw Anas, do not fall at the hands of outsiders alone, but from the betrayal within their land.
A Historical Parallel: The Ikegami Brothers and the Struggle for Truth
This struggle is not new. The story of the Ikegami brothers, followers of Nichiren Daishonin, mirrors the same test of loyalty and betrayal seen in Ghana today. When the brothers followed Nichiren’s teachings and refused to bow to a corrupt system, their own father disowned them—pitting brother against brother, using power and inheritance to break their faith. This ancient tactic of division is the same one used by oppressors today: turning Kennedy Agyapong against Anas, silencing journalists, and keeping Ghanaians distracted while corruption thrives.
The Devil’s Work: A Nation Under Siege
When leaders allow themselves to be swayed by greed, anger, and foolishness, they lose sight of the correct faith—the responsibility to serve their people. Ghana’s NPP government and its enablers have become subjects of this devil king, seeking to silence truth-tellers and deceive the people. Their tactics are simple: spread fear, discredit the righteous, and use betrayal as a weapon.
The U.S. court ruling against Kennedy Agyapong is a rare moment of justice—a glimmer of hope that in a fair legal system, no one is above accountability. But will Ghana remain a silent country? Or will its people rise above manipulation, division, and fear to reclaim the truth?
The choice lies in the hands of Ghanaians. Speak now—or remain silent forever.

Joining the dialogue: Ms. Assumpta Gahutu, CEO of Assumpta Newsletter Publication Magazine and Principal of Babies and Toddlers Daycare, sharing her perspective on this powerful discussion.
🎙️ Dialogue Begins

Serwaa Amihere:
Good evening, Ghana! It’s an honor to be here today on Onward, where we engage in conversations that matter. I’m Serwaa Amihere, and joining me is the incredible Frema Adunyame.

Frema Adunyame:
Good evening, Serwaa, and good evening to our cherished audience! We have a powerful discussion lined up today—one that digs into the very core of Ghana’s justice system, press freedom, and the future of our democracy.

Serwaa Amihere:
That’s right, Frema. And to enrich this discussion, we are privileged to have with us Ms. Assumpta Gahutu, CEO of Assumpta Newsletter Publication Magazine and Principal of Babies and Toddlers Daycare. Ms. Gahutu, welcome!

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Thank you, Serwaa and Frema! It’s truly a pleasure to join you both and be part of this crucial conversation. Journalism is the heartbeat of accountability, and in Ghana today, that heartbeat is under threat. The case of Ahmed Suale’s murder, Kennedy Agyapong’s role, and the failure of our judiciary are issues that cannot be ignored.
🔥 The Silent Country: A Mystery Wrapped in Silence

Frema Adunyame:
Ms. Gahutu, let’s begin with the most chilling aspect of this discussion—Ahmed Suale’s assassination. What does his death say about the state of press freedom in Ghana?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Ahmed Suale’s murder was a direct attack on investigative journalism. It was a message: If you expose the truth, you risk your life. But even more troubling is the silence that followed. Who killed Ahmed Suale? Why has justice been abandoned? Ghana’s judiciary, which should be a pillar of justice, has become a tool for the powerful.

Serwaa Amihere:
And that brings us to the U.S. court ruling against Kennedy Agyapong. While Ghana’s courts dismissed Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s case, the U.S. system ruled in his favor. Does this expose deep flaws in our judiciary?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Absolutely! The Superior Court of New Jersey ordering Kennedy Agyapong to pay $18 million in damages proves one thing: In a fair legal system, no one is above the law. But in Ghana, the system bends to power and wealth. The judiciary is no longer for the people—it’s for the highest bidder.
🛑 Why Are Ghanaian Leaders Failing Their People?

Frema Adunyame:
Ms. Gahutu, you’ve spoken about the judiciary’s failures, but let’s look at the bigger picture. What is the root cause of this?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
At the heart of this crisis is fundamental ignorance—the inability of our leaders to believe in their own innate Buddhahood. They do not recognize that they possess the capacity for justice, truth, and righteousness within themselves. Instead, they allow greed, power, and deception to control their actions.

Serwaa Amihere:
That’s a profound perspective. So, you’re saying that Ghanaian leaders have lost their spiritual and moral compass?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Exactly. When you don’t believe in your ability to do good, you become a puppet of corruption. Ghana’s leaders have lost faith in their people, their judiciary, and their capacity for justice. That is why they remain silent while journalists are murdered, courts are manipulated, and the powerful walk free.
🔎 History Repeats Itself: The Weaponization of Division

Frema Adunyame:
This reminds me of a quote: “It’s easy to destroy a Black man! Because his people will help you do it.” We have seen this throughout history—Marcus Garvey, Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, Thomas Sankara—all brought down not just by external forces but by their people.

Serwaa Amihere:
And today, it continues: Kennedy Agyapong vs. Anas Aremeyaw Anas, politicians vs. journalists, Ghanaians vs. their future. Ms. Gahutu, is this deliberate? Is division being used as a tool to control the people?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Yes, it is! And this is not new. In history, we see this pattern—the Ikegami brothers, followers of Nichiren Daishonin, faced the same struggle. Their father turned against them for standing by the truth. This is how the devil king of the sixth heaven operates—it confuses people, makes them doubt themselves, and turns them against each other.

Frema Adunyame:
So, in Ghana today, the NPP government and Kennedy Agyapong are playing right into the hands of this same oppressive force?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Yes! They are allowing themselves to be controlled by greed, anger, and ignorance. And when that happens, the people suffer. The media is silenced. Truth is suppressed. And Ghana remains a silent country.
⚖️ Kennedy Agyapong’s Fall – The End of Impunity?

Serwaa Amihere:
But what about the U.S. court ruling? Does this mark the beginning of Kennedy Agyapong’s downfall?

Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
It is the first crack in the wall of impunity. Kennedy Agyapong, who thought himself untouchable, has been held accountable—but not in Ghana, in the U.S. That alone should tell us everything. If the case had been in Ghana, he would have walked free.

Frema Adunyame:
That’s the painful reality. If Ghana’s justice system does not wake up, we will continue to rely on foreign courts to hold our leaders accountable.
🚨 The Final Question: Will Ghana Remain a Silent Country?
Serwaa Amihere:
Ms. Gahutu, before we wrap up, I must ask: Can Ghana break free from this silence? Or are we doomed to be a nation where the truth is always buried?
Ms. Assumpta Gahutu:
Ghana still has a choice. But the people must decide. Will they rise and demand justice? Or will they remain silent?
Frema Adunyame:
A powerful message to end on. To our listeners—Ghana, this is your moment. Speak now, or remain silent forever.

📢 Final Thoughts
🔴 Ahmed Suale’s murder remains unsolved.
🔴 Ghana’s judiciary is failing its people.
🔴 The U.S. court ruling against Kennedy Agyapong proves that justice is possible.
🔴 But will Ghana follow suit?
📌 Stay tuned for the next edition of Onward. This conversation is far from over!
The Ikegami Brothers: A Lesson in Division and Betrayal
Throughout history, those in power have used division as a weapon to weaken resistance, control the people, and silence truth. This is not a new strategy—it has been used for centuries. A striking example of this can be found in the story of the Ikegami brothers, followers of Nichiren Daishonin, who faced betrayal from within their own family because of their commitment to truth and justice.
Who Were the Ikegami Brothers?
The Ikegami brothers, Munenaka and Munenaga, were devoted followers of Nichiren Daishonin, a Buddhist reformer in 13th-century Japan.
Their father, Ikegami Saemon-no-jō,

Held a high-ranking government position and was deeply influenced by Ryōkan, the chief priest of the True Word Precepts school. Ryōkan was an enemy of Nichiren and worked closely with the ruling authorities to suppress his teachings, which challenged corruption and falsehood in society.

At first, their father tolerated the brothers’ faith, but as their commitment to Nichiren’s teachings grew, he faced external pressure from political and religious forces who saw Nichiren’s influence as a threat. This is when the strategy of division and betrayal was put into action.
The Strategy of Division: Turning Family Against Each Other
Realizing that he could not outright force his sons to abandon Nichiren, Ikegami Saemon-no-jō devised a more cunning plan.
- He disowned his eldest son, Munenaka, stripping him of his inheritance and family status.
- He kept the younger son, Munenaga, in his favor, offering him the position of family heir under one condition—he had to renounce Nichiren’s teachings.
- By creating a conflict between the brothers, he sought to break their unity and force them to choose between faith and family security.
This was an age-old tactic—if you cannot defeat the truth directly, turn those who uphold it against each other. Sow doubt, create jealousy, and let betrayal do the work of oppression.
The Brothers’ Struggle: Faith vs. Betrayal
At first, Munenaga wavered, torn between his father’s demands and his faith in Nichiren’s teachings. If he obeyed his father, he would gain wealth, status, and security. If he remained loyal to the truth, he risked being disowned as well.
Nichiren, aware of this manipulation, wrote to the brothers, warning them of the devil king of the sixth heaven—a force that works to obstruct righteousness by sowing division, creating confusion, and manipulating human weaknesses like fear and greed. He urged them to stay united, no matter the cost.
Eventually, Munenaga chose his faith over inheritance, and their father, realizing that his plan had failed, disowned both sons. However, their unity and perseverance led to an incredible transformation—their father later converted to Nichiren’s teachings and restored their family bond.
Parallels to Ghana Today: The Same Strategy of Division
This story is a mirror reflection of what is happening in Ghana today. When powerful figures fear the truth, they do not always attack it directly. Instead, they turn people against each other:
- Kennedy Agyapong vs. Anas Aremeyaw Anas – Politicians using division to silence journalists.
- Ahmed Suale’s Ghanaian men used against him – Those who should have protected him were manipulated to eliminate him.
- The NPP government silencing its people – Instead of protecting journalists, they label them enemies and incite violence against them.
The same devilish tactics used against the Ikegami brothers are being used today—create internal conflicts, manipulate the weak, and turn brother against brother to maintain control.
The Devil King of the Sixth Heaven: The Force Behind Betrayal
Nichiren described the devil king of the sixth heaven as a force that seeks to destroy unity, weaken faith, and confuse people so they can be controlled. This force operates through:
- Fear – This makes people afraid to stand up for the truth.
- Greed – Offering money and power to those willing to betray others.
- Doubt – Making people question their own beliefs and turn against their allies.
In Ghana, this devilish influence is clear in the way powerful figures manipulate politicians, journalists, and even ordinary citizens to betray their people. Instead of uniting against corruption, they are turned into weapons for it.
Breaking Free: Will Ghana Learn from History?
The Ikegami brothers overcame betrayal because they remained united and refused to let fear, greed, or doubt dictate their actions. Ghana today faces the same test.
- Will we stand together against corruption?
- Or will we allow division to destroy the fight for justice?
The devil king of the sixth heaven thrives on silence and fear. The only way to defeat it is through unity, courage, and an unbreakable commitment to truth.
Ghana must decide: Will it remain a Silent Country? Or will it finally break free from the cycle of betrayal and oppression?
